Cheryl Cole has lost out on being a judge on the US 'X Factor' because of her British accent.

The 27-year-old beauty - who is from North West English city Newcastle - has flown to Los Angeles to discuss her role in the US version with TV bosses, but is reported to have been dropped from plans because she is not famous enough Stateside.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "People just don't know who she is over there and people struggle to understand what she is saying."

However, she may still work on the show in the capacity of a mentor. Series boss Simon Cowell is said to have offered her the alternative role because he wants to help boost her profile in the US.

The source added: "Simon is consoling her with the offer of helping him win the first series, which would give her profile a massive boost."

Since arriving in America last week to discuss her involvement in the show, Cheryl has been feeling homesick and has been calling her mother constantly.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Cheryl was missing Joan just a few hours after she and her brother Gary Tweedy landed. They even had a mini-spat when he told her she needs to start making decisions on her own.

"She reckons she is going to need constant visits from her mum at least every fortnight and she will fly home every other week - even if just for a couple of days."

Cheryl is also missing her favourite British candy, and is planning on having a host of sweet treats shipped over from the UK, despite her rumoured boyfriend Derek Hough's best efforts to please her tastebuds.

The source added: "Derek bought her some Haribo sweets the other day and she said they tasted different, so she's planning on getting her favourite sweets posted over."

Am quite happy not with malice though..she is good on the UK one...danni and louis would be so boring without both simon and Cheryl. PLUS...she must stay home..leave this Derek what what character and work on her relationship with Ashley *wishfull thinking*.

But she is taking Sinita's sidekick job to simon...i can accept that...and atleast she gets to keep her accent for that, May actually be entertaining.
