On Motswako this Monday  (6 December 2010):

Tonight's show addresses the topic of woman abuse which has been highlighted by the 16 Days of Activism campaign, the annual government-led initiative that promotes the rights of women and gender equality.

Much has been said about the benefits of the campaign - but, of course, it has its detractors too.

Does celebrating 16 days of non-violence against women and children mean we condone violence at all other times?

Is enough done to highlight the need to eradicate abuse in our homes, communities and society at large?

Motswako puts forward the argument that the initiative should be a permanent feature of our society and should not be limited to a three-week period at the end of the year.

Penny speaks to Andile Gaelesiwe, who after many years revealed that she was abused by her father.

She also talks to Patrick Shai who now works with Brothers for Life. He was once a women basher and speaks out about his past.

Wendy Isaack from POWA talks about how her organization helps women who have left their abusive relationships.

Motswako is on SABC2 on Mondays at 21h30.
