James Bhemgee

Capetonian singer James Bhemgee defeated Capetonian singer Madalene Abrahams in the finale of SA's Got Talent 2 tonight, after both defeated Capetonian drummers Limited Drum Corps.

We hear the show has been renamed to Cape Town's Got Talent - more about that later.

It's been a wild, 22-year ride for the 45-year-old Bhemgee from Mitchell's Plain, whose life thus far must be the top priority for any aspiring documentary-makers.

Having been discovered by 83-year-old widow Angelique Fuhr while singing in the streets on his job as a street sweeper, Bhemgee was sponsored singing lessons and a trip to the Royal College of Music in London.

He later moved to the United States, and hadn't been heard of again for 20 years. Until now.

James Bhemgee 2

Bhemgee made a surprise appearance at the auditions for SA's Got Talent and steadily worked his way through the various rounds until his appearance in the finale.

The only serious competition he faced was from police constable Madalene Abrahams (32) from Strand in Cape Town, whose elegant white gown was a far cry from her rough-and-ready day job uniform.

As judge Ian von Memerty pointed out: criminals are going to be queuing up to get arrested by her.

It was Bhemgee, however, who won the hearts, votes and a quarter of a million big ones, completing his extraordinary comeback from the entertainment wilderness.

James told TVSA after the show that he intends to spend his money on buying a house.

Congrats James!! Wow the competition was so stiff and tight yerrr...I could not decided who to put my vote on because the guys and girl(s) were fabulous and outstanding.Mady with the nightingale melody just blew me away with "I will always love you".....and the Tembisa Revolution dudes were sizzling....not to mention the rendition of "If ain't got you" by red hot vocalist Niyaaz....please bloggers is Niyaaz a girl or a boy??? I could not make head or tail of Niyaaz's gender............................

SA's got Talent was truly awesome this year and James definately desrved to win.  He was the best of the best.
However i have one grip about the voting process.  I voted twice and was charged R40.00 for the 2 sms's!  WTF.  SMS's were suppose to be charged at R2.00 each.  Who can i contact regarding this day light robbery.  If anybody knows, please direct me towards the correct party.  I suggest whoever else voted check their statements too.  This is definately not cool and false advertising !!!!!
