So-so-so, who looks most like a
Popstar from the auditions we've seen so far?
As always happens in reality shows, there are those who just happen to look like one when they arrive on the scene. They might not be doing anything in particular, yet there's something about their style that suggests they'd suit being one completely.
Even though the winners are going to be styled up the wazoo, it's not gonna help if they don't have their own inner sense of what pops and what doesn't.
These are our Top 5 Tips of what's
hott Vs
not when it comes to who's been wearing what at the auditions:
1) Died Blonde Hair = Hott (espesh if dark roots show)Two wannabe's who've made the Boot Camp round wear this look ... a chickie at the Cape Town auditions, whose name we can't remember; and TK, who was at the Jozi auditions in Saturday's episode:
While TK's hair's rad. Her fringe isn't. Needs a chop to above her eyebrows so we can see her peepers.
2) Tongue Ringths = NotAnother fash. crime committed by TK is the tongue ring. Not because of what it looks like or how iffy it is trying to imagine it being put in (brrr) - but rather because it
definitely affects the sound when someone sings.
3) Old age home caps and waistcoats = Not
As worn by Coby, Jacoby,
Whitney Houston. He's obviously going for a look that says: "Hey, look at how I don't buy into the latest trends." Which
doesn't work. Not for a star with pop. If he makes it past Boot Camp he'll need to do a
lot to change his attitude.
4) Sunglasses inside = Not
The whole sunglasses-inside-look: waaay too overdone and samey. By 2011 it'll be Last Decade so popstars of the future need to ditch them
, now.
5) Dungarees, on girls = hott
As worn by Ruby at the Jozi auditions. She made it through to callbacks, got commended by the judges for her voice but
not for her gear.
They didn't criticise her dungarees specifically but said she was "overstyled blah blah", which we don't agree with at all. Dungarees on a girl are highly underestimated generally. There aren't nearly enough of them in stores - they aren't seen enough and should be.
The bonus of them: their straps package cleavage with bang, their boyishness has the girlcrush factor; and when they're shorts, they're a mini.
