Twins Hlelo and Ntando Masina, best known as Da Twinz
They've been Double DJ'ing on YFM since last year and they've been presenting on Channel O's daily show Young, Gifted & African for the past four months - since the show premiered.
Their plan for 2010: Their own clothing line.
Over the past couples of weeks I've been spying the H & N two-sum all over the place: they were at the
Channel O Awards last month, clinging to KB on the Red and they presented during the Awards. Most recently I spotted them hanging out at DStv's year-end festive party, which was held at a schmancy boutique hotel in Sandton (see the soapie staircase).
Booze in hand I floozied over to them for goss (and to see if I could tell them apart once and for all) ...
Tashi: So how can we tell you apart?
Hlelo: I’m the oldest and the hot one. I’m a minute older than her.
Ntando: And I think I wear the pants in the relationship.
Hlelo: We are
so tight.
Ntando: I’ve got her back, she’s got my back, we’ve got each other’s sides. We’re the ultimate best friends.
Tashi : Do people always get confused between you?
Hlelo: They do, until they get to know us.
Tashi: What are the main differences between you?
Hlelo: Being the older, I’m bigger - I wear a size bigger, people think I’m the more mature of the two.
Ntando: And she's got dimples. People often can’t tell us apart when we’re not together so I’ll meet someone in the lift and they’ll think I’m Hlelo.
Tashi: Do you fight?
Hlelo and Ntando: All the time. Every day. About everything.
Tashi: Do you often wear the same clothes?
Hlelo and Ntando: NO.
Hlelo: We do if it’s for branding, but otherwise not.
Ntando: We like to have our own identity, even though most of our stuff matches.
Tashi: What’s your take on the Big Brother twins Erastus and Edward? I can’t work out how one could have done so much better than the other when they’re exactly the same?
Ntando: I could actually tell them apart. I think Erastus (
who got whacked) was my favourite - he was the cooler one of the two.
Tashi: When/if one of you were to fall in lurve - what’s gonna happen?
Hlelo: It's happened already - we’ve never gone for twins, we like different kinds of guys.
Tashi: What will happen if you do both like the same guy?
Ntando: That’s happened before too.
Tashi: How do you decide?
Hlelo: We let him go.
Tashi: Did you want to be on
Celebrity Survivor?
Hlelo: We thought about going on but then we thought they wouldn’t pick us because we have a natural alliance.
Ntando: And I’d be hungry within the first hour. I’d be like “Excuse me - I need to
eat.”
Tashi: Who’s your-all-time fave Survivor?
Hlelo: It would have to be the
Gravedigger James.
Ntando: Mine’s
the one who lied about his grandmother. If you can manipulate all those people on the island, then you know what, you’re the man.
Tashi: What do you like most about each other?
Ntando: You can go first.
Hlelo: No you can go first.
Ntando: No you can go first.
Hlelo: What I admire about her is that, sometimes I can let people walk all over me, and she just puts her foot down: “it’s not gonna happen.” Especially in the workplace.
Ntando: Yah and she makes sure I don’t put my foot in it.
Tashi: What’s your star sign?
Hlelo: Libra.
Ntando: The scale.
