Bio

Luthuli Dlamini is a South African actor best known for his lead role as Stan Nyathi on the e.tv soapie Scandal!, from its inception in January 2005 until he was fired from the show for breach of contract on 28 June, 2007.

He returned to Scandal! on 14 December 2011 and made recurring appearances as Stan between 2011 and 2013.

In 2013 he joined the SABC1 soapie Generations in the role of Scott Nomvete. He made his debut on 24 July, 2013.

Born in Zimbabwe and raised in England, Dlamini moved to South Africa after school to establish himself as an actor.

He made numerous television appearances in shows such as Drum, Snitch, Generations, Isidingo, Justice For All and The Res, before landing the lead role in Scandal!.

He has played the leading role of Tombo Mbuli in the M-Net sitcom The Coconuts, from 2008-2009.

In 2011 he starred in the green consumerism show Greenline, on SABC3.

His theatre credits include Maralin Vanrenen’s Blue/Orange (his first job upon arriving in South Africa, and which he credits as his favourite performance to date), The Crucible, Miss Julie, Sherry Orchard and Romeo and Juliet.

In 2015 he starred in a high profile television commercial for Gill anti-dandruff shampoo, with the tagline: "Stop the nonsense, man." He also had a starring role in the Mzansi Magic telenovela The Road.

Scandal! Scandal

On 4 June, 2007, Dlamini called in to Scandal! producers saying he was ill, and needed a few days off. After a few days he had still not returned to work nor contacted the show's producers, who made various media statements in which they claimed they had no knowledge of his whereabouts.

Calls to his home went unanswered and his house appeared to be locked up and uninhabited.

A manhunt was launched two weeks after his disappearance, only for police to discover he was hiding in his house. The actor claimed he was still recuperating from his illness and that he needed some time alone.

On 28 June e.tv announced that they had fired Dlamini with immediate effect, having failed to make contact with him to discuss the situation. He later returned to the show in a guest starring capacity.
