Grace Gummer is an American actress best known for her recurring role as Hallie Shea, a reporter embedded with the Mitt Romney campaign who begins an unlikely relationship with Jim Harper, in the television drama series The Newsroom.

She also has a starring role as Julie Gelineau, John Woods' assistant, in the science fiction mystery thriller television series Extant, executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

Gummer made her professional acting debut in the Off-Broadway project The Sexual Neuroses of Our Parents, and completed a run as Hero in Much Ado About Nothing at the Kirk Douglas Theater in Los Angeles.

She made her debut on Broadway as Chloë Coverly in Tom Stoppard's Arcadia, for which she won a Theatre World Award. She also appeared on Broadway opposite John Lithgow in Daniel Sullivan's The Columnist.

Gummer appeared in Noah Baumbach's feature Frances Ha! and in the films The Homesman, opposite Hilary Swank and Tommy Lee Jones, and Jenny's Wedding, with Tom Wilkinson and Katherine Heigl.

Gummer's television credits include a starring role in the series Gigantic and a recurring role in Smash and The Newsroom.

Gummer was born in New York City, where she currently lives. She is the daughter of Meryl Streep and the younger sister of Mamie Gummer.
