Bio

Van Hansis is an American actor best known for his role as Luke Snyder on the television soap opera As the World Turns, from 2005-2010.

Van Hansis joined the cast of As the World Turns in December 2005, taking over the role of Luke Snyder from Jake Weary. He was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 2007.

Hansis joined the cast shortly after receiving his BFA in Acting from the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University. He has worked professionally at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts, in productions of On the Razzle, Twelfth Night, and The Indian Wants the Bronx.

Hansis received substantial press attention since his character, Luke Snyder, announced that he was gay in May of 2006. Hansis and co-star Martha Byrne appeared in a public service announcement that promoted tolerance and acceptance that aired the week following the episode where Luke came out.

Originally from Greenfield, Maryland, Hansis has traveled extensively, having studied theatre in Moscow during his time at Carnegie Mellon. He also visited various countries in Latin America as a child.

After moving to New York City, Hansis bike rides around his new city, every chance he gets.
