Bio

Pepi Kambule is a South African actor best known for his role as Prince Dingaan in the television soapie Backstage, as well as for his portrayal of John Khumalo, an HIV-positive and abusive husband in Anant Singh's Oscar-nominated film Yesterday.

He played the leading role in the television drama A Place Called Home (2006-2007) and had a featured role in the mini-series Society (2007).

He played the lead role of Bongani Thwala, an investigative reporter who helps solves murders, in the SABC1 drama series Mtunzini.com, from 2006-2008.

In March 2008 Khambule was fired from the show after sending a heavy-handed email of complaint to the head of SABC drama, threatening to resign in protest at what he perceived to be too low a salary and prejudicial behaviour towards him by the show's director.

Despite earning a salary of R24,000 per month, he claimed he was not able to afford transport and the R1,000 pay rise he was given the previous year was not enough.

He was promptly fired by the SABC.
