Bio

Bubu Mazibuko is a South African actress and casting director best known for her starring role as Thuli on the television drama series Gaz'lam, from 2002-2005, for which she was nominated in the category Best Supporting Actress at the inaugural SAFTA Awards, in 2006.

Born in Soweto, South Africa, in 1975 - a time of conflict, riots and apartheid - Bubu was whisked off to boarding school in Swaziland, attending as a boarder at the Florence Christian Academy.

In 1991 she returned to South Africa to complete her education before finally returning to Swaziland to matriculate.

In 1993, Bubu studied Fine Arts until an opportunity arose to study film at the New York Film Academy. However, two weeks after her arrival in the United States her sponsor died, forcing her to drop out of the academy.

Nonetheless she stayed on in New York to study filmmaking and drama.

In 1998 Bubu appeared in her first feature film, Desert Diners. This was followed by a children's movie entitled Lost and Found.

She has acted in numerous television shows including Yizo Yizo, Zero Tolerance, Gaz'lam, Behind the Badge, Jozi Streets and the role of receptionist Phumla in the drama series Tshisa.

In 2006 she had a small role in the feature film Catch a Fire, starring Tim Robbins.

She had a co-starring role in the SABC1 drama series A Place Called Home, from 20 December 2006 - 14 March 2007.

She played the role of Milhoti, a single mother who shares a large room with four others, divided by a thin curtain. She desperately hangs onto a notion of privacy, while she dreams of a day a knight in shining armour will take her away from it all.

She also played the role of Inspector Chakela on the third season of the SABC1 drama series Home Affairs, from May - August 2007.

In 2008 she played the role of Luntu on Entabeni - the first six-part mini-series in SABC1's Shakespeare In Mzansi Festival.

She played the role of Faniswa - the abused wife of Khobane, the corrupt town cop - in the SABC2 mini-series Hopeville, from March to April, 2009.

She also has a starring role as Khosi Hlatswayo, the wife of a powerful politician who finds himself at the centre of a political conspiracy, in the SABC1 political thriller mystery drama series End Game.
