Bio
Sisanda Henna is a South African actor, writer, presenter, producer, director, financial planner and entertainment entrepreneur best known for his starring role as Andile in the SABC1 drama series Tsha Tsha, from 2003-2006, for which he won a Duku Duku award for Best Actor in a TV Drama in 2003.
He also starred as Kenny Mogolwa in the SABC2 medical drama television series Hillside. He has guest starred in numerous television series including ER, City Ses'la, Scandal! and Soul City.
He was a presenter of the business programme Vuk'zenzele from 2006-2007 and hosted a birthday show for Shoprite in 2008.
He has appeared in the short films Small Street (2003) and Rifle Road (2005), the feature film Blood Hunt (2003) and the made-for-TV movie Einmal so wie ich will, in 2004.
He also lent his voice to the video game Far Cry 2, in 2008.
In 2012 he was the host of the fifth season of the SABC1 reality show All You Need is Love, but was replaced by Tshepo Mosese after five episodes.
Henna's acting career exploded on South African screens in 2003, with hit TV serials: Tsha Tsha, Soul City, This Life and a telecoms giant ad campaign (as the face of the Network) appearing in all their TV ads, billboards, and even airtime cards.
He won the 2004 Duku Duku Best Actor in a Drama award and started working in production behind the scenes in 2003 as a runner, PA, co-ordinator, assistant director and producer.
He trained under Genevieve Hofmeyr as a producer on Invictus, starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman, produced by Warner Bros and directed by Clint Eastwood.
Sisanda moved to Los Angles to pursue the bigger stage of Hollywood in 2007, where he worked at the Pan African Film and Arts Festival, assisting the festival Director with everything from IT to overseeing quality control, filmmaker liaison, PR and marketing strategies.
On his return, Henna officially launched his directing career, directing a commercial for the Dept. of Roads, displaying a flamboyant but earthy directing style. The client enjoyed the cinematic scale and a producer who could include a helicopter shot in a small budget.
He also worked freelance as a financial planner and investments advisor for PPS, the financial services giant, which according to Henna gave him "an edge when dealing with virgin investors in the film industry". Henna is also a public speaker who is invited to speak at many events and gatherings, drawing on his celebrity status in South Africa.
He took part in The Sediba Masters Story and Script Editors Programme, having successfully completed the Spark Script Editors Program in 2012, with the goal of becoming a well rounded writer-director, story and script editor.
In 2012 he had a lead role in the Mzansi Magic telemovie Molly's Game, which was part of the channel's "Lokshin Bioskop" strand of hour-long films. The movie first aired on the channel on Tuesday 25 September, 2012, at 21h00
The following year he played the role of Nqoba in an episode of the e.tv romantic comedy anthology series Mzansi Love.
Also in 2013, he took over as the host of the biggest gospel music TV show in South Africa, Gospel Gold, on SABC1. He remained on the show for three seasons, until 2015.
Sisanda played the recurring role of Max Moloi, Gasta's (Baby Cele) lawyer and lover, on all three seasons of the Mzansi Magic soapie Zabalaza, from 2013-2016. In 2013 he guest starred on the kykNET period drama series Donkerland.
In 2016 had guest starring roles on the third season of the SABC1 sitcom Ses'Top La and on the first season of the eKasi+ drama series Hustle, playing Moruti Sampson.
In 2017 he landed the recurring role of Sizwe Nxumalo, the lover of Lerato (played by Samkelo Ndlovu), in the e.tv soapie Rhythm City. He made his first appearance on the show on 8 May, 2017.
Henna's directorial debut in series television began when he worked with Quizzical Pictures as an episodic director on the popular SABC1 drama series Intersexions 2. He went on to direct episodes of the e.tv telenovela Gold Diggers and the Mzansi Magic telenovela Greed & Desire. He was also the series producer, director, creative director and script editor for the SABC2 sitcom Gauteng Maboneng 2.
He also plays the role of Samson in the SABC1 miniseries Emjindini; and plays Lesego Moleko in the SABC1 and French channel Canal+ co-production drama series, Agent.
He appears in the kykNET film Griekwastad, based on the true crime novel by Jacques Steenkamp about the murder of a family on a farm, starring Arnold Vosloo.
He also acts in the short films Shaka's Mask and I Was Blind, which did the rounds of film festivals and aired on SABC1.
In October 2019 he began starring in the M-Net Original Production Trackers, a thriller miniseries based on the book by Deon Meyer. In the show he plays Julius "Inkunzi" Shabangu, a Johannesburg-based organised crime boss who runs a large syndicate involved in car-jacking, drugs, and prostitution.
Also in 2019, he began working on the SABC2 telenovela Lithapo in the role of news anchor journalist Trevor Mdoda. The series is produced by Quizzical Pictures.
He also appears in the feature film Rogue alongside a global cast including Megan Fox.
Sisanda has a starring role in the sports comedy-drama series Agent, a 13-part series streamed on Netflix and aired on CANAL+ and SABC1.
In the series he plays Lesego 'Ace' Moleko, the biggest striker in the country with an ego that knows no bounds. He wears the number 9 shirt and his personalised numberplate reads "God". He is Blaze's number one client, but also his biggest headache as he lurches from one scandal to the next.
Henna is extremely passionate about sport and maintaining a vibrant, healthy lifestyle. In Agent, he plays a highly athletic football star and in Rogue he transforms into a mercenary with a colossal physique.
These two roles required intensive training and body conditioning to ensure peak fitness.
Sisanda is multilingual, speaking English, Afrikaans, Xhosa and Zulu. Proud of his Xhosa heritage, Henna is fluent in his mother tongue isiXhosa and still actively keeps the cultural nuances of his lineage alive while remaining modern, worldly and progressive
