Bio

Jeremy Mansfield was a radio and TV presenter best known on TV for hosting the SABC2 game show A Word or 2 and the M-Net hidden camera stand-up comedy show Laugh Out Loud.

Born in Grahamstown and educated at Kingswood College and then Rhodes University, Jeremy majored in Speech, Drama and Journalism.

During this time, in 1985, he was awarded the AA Vita Award as the most Promising Young South African Actor.

Another highlight in the arts was when Jeremy led the SA Army Band as Drum Major.

From 1985 to 1990, Jeremy worked on Natal-based Capital Radio after which he formed his own media-liaison, communications and promotions company.

In 1992, Jeremy started freelancing for the Sports Department of Radio 702 and then in 1993, he was offered the Saturday Afternoon Magazine Programme as a regular feature.

His starring break came in 1995 when he took-up the reins of the 702 afternoon show, the first hour of which he co-hosted with Jenny Crwys-Williams.

In January 1997, Jeremy moved to the newly owned, new look independent Highveld Stereo where he started and hosted their weekday breakfast show The Rude Awakening.

He also released CDs including The Rude Awakening and Beer-ya-ti-Full, which was released over Christmas of 1999.

At the same time, Jeremy made his first "laugh-a-minute" foray into publishing with Vrot Jokes.

Jeremy was a features contributor and guest presenter on M-Net's Front Row and, in a readers poll, he was voted Johannesburg's Most Popular Personality and Best Radio Presenter.

He hosted all seasons of the SABC2 game show A Word or 2 and Seasons 1 and 2 of M-Net's Laugh Out Loud.

In 2009 Jeremy was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, which he survived after therapy.

He was later diagnosed with liver cancer, at the beginning of 2022, and died on Monday 31 October 2022. He was 59.
