Bio

Siphiwe Hlabangane is a South African actor best known for his role as Kolo Modise on the SABC2 soapie Muvhango, from 2004-2007.

Siphiwe studied drama at the National School of the Arts between 1998 and 2002. In that time he performed in five productions: Fame (1999), Blues for Mister Charlie (2000), Beside Herself (2001), The Boy who Ate the Moon (2002) and Desire, also in 2002.

In his final year at the school he was among the Top Eight performers in the drama department, and received a Best Ensemble award for his role in Woza Albert.

Since matriculating he has done a lot of work at the Johannesburg Civic Theatres' Actors Centre, including Les Liasons Dangereuses (2003), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (2005), Nongogo (2005) and the self-penned play The Beauty of Us, in 2005.

He performed in Nongogo at the Market Theatre for a six-week run in 2006 and was nominated in the category of Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Blakie.

In 2007 Siphiwe performed Soweto Story (a new South African Musical) at the Nelson Mandela Theatre.

Having completed a MAPPP SETA accredited television producing course, under the auspices of Hotshots in partnership with some production company owners, Siphiwe went on to produce, write and direct his own short film titled Death of a Dream, which was broadcast on Soweto TV.

Death of a Dream prompted Siphiwe to continue with television producing at Curious Pictures. He was part of the team that wrote the Heartlines drama series Hopeville. Siphiwe was involved in all facets of this production from its conceptualisation to the marketing of it.

Other television shows he has acted in include Yizo Yizo 2 (2001), Mthunzini.com (2005) and Egoli (2008).

In 2009 he was a starring cast member of the SABC2 sitcom Konsternasie Oppie Stasie, playing the role of Vusi Makhathini-Rutherford, a young, up-and-coming accountant who was raised by white foster parents.

From 2009-2011 he hosted the fifth and sixth seasons of the SABC1 docu-reality series Kaelo - Stories of Hope, which highlights how communities and the public, private and civil sector are working together to develop South Africa.

In 2011 he appeared in the feature film Winnie Mandela.

In 2012 he played a radio DJ in an episode of the Mzansi Magic telenovela iNkaba and the following year he guest starred on the Mzansi Magic soapie Zabalaza. Also in 2013, he guest starred on the SABC2 sitcom Geraamtes in die Kas.

Siphiwe had a starring guest role in three episodes of the SABC1 drama series Intersexions (also in 2013), in which he played the role of Thapelo, a gospel artist.

In 2015 he landed the starring role of Duma "Boss" Beseni, an aspiring entrepreneur who buys a bed and breakfast after winning R5-million in the lottery, in the eKasi+ / e.tv sitcom B&B.
