Bio

Nicole Bailey is a South African actress, voice artist and director best known for her starring role as Nono, a sassy young retirement home resident nurse/receptionist to whom the job is just an easy ticket to a monthly pay cheque for an easy ride, in the SABC3 sitcom Let Heaven Wait, in 2013.

It was her first major role in television.

Even though her first role was that of a shrimp and her subsequent role entailed her saying only one line, Nicole determined at the age of eight that she was in love with acting and has been fighting to realise that dream ever since.

After brief schooling in America, a year in England, travel through the Middle East and a university degree from Stellenbosch University, Nicole decided that she had had enough of explaining her passion to people and keeping it a hobby and made the leap into attempting it full time.

In her 2nd year at CityVarsity School of Media and Creative Arts in Cape Town, Nicole was cast as a featured lead in Wanuri Kahiu's post-apocalyptic short film Punzi, which went on to become officially selected at major film festivals around the world, including Berlin and Sundance and which won Best Short Film at Cannes Independent Film Festival 2010.

In her final year, Nicole managed to land a role in South Africa's first 3D film, Dredd, written by Alex Garland of The Beach and Last King of Scotland fame, and produced by the makers of Trainspotting, which was shot at the brand new Cape Town Film Studios and stars names such as Wood Harris, Olivia Thirlby of Juno and Karl Urban as the new Judge Dredd.

A few months thereafter, she found herself being cast in the Twentieth Century Fox teen thriller Chronicle, which opened in cinemas worldwide.

Not wanting to stop there, Nicole resolved to know every aspect of the industry so that she could hone not only her craft, but start creating as well, when not acting, and has subsequently had success as a coordinator, studio 1st and 2nd Assistant Director.

The Callsheet newspaper featured her as their Crew Member of the Month for December 2011/January 2012 – and now, as a content producer and researcher in Johannesburg, where she now resides.

Nicole moved to Johannesburg to explore television acting further and receives personal coaching from South African veteran Dorothy Ann Gould. She continues to perform in theatre productions, various local and international commercials and is an avid voice over artist.

In 2014 she had a guest starring role in the SABC2 drama series Swartwater.

Her birthday is 14 May.
