Bio

Hayley Owen is a South African actress and entrepreneur best known for her role as tough-talking game ranger Angie on the M-Net soap opera The Wild, from 2011-2013.

Hailing from Bryanston, Hayley has held a deep desire for the arts since she was young, fostering the passion from her late grandmother, who was also an actress. At a young age Hayley and her sister Megan were encouraged to play dress up and perform for their parents.

Hayley's love for performing was nurtured through school and at Wits University, where she graduated with honours in Dramatic Art. After graduation, spurred on by her desire to not only entertain, but to use her talent to change hearts and minds, Hayley became involved in Educational theatre.

She was a pioneering member of the first Playback Theatre Company in Johannesburg, who specialised in improvisational theatre where the audience tell stories and actors spontaneously bring them to life.

After an internship with the Playback Theatre Company in London, Hayley made her first venture into television, working as a TV presenter for the SKY Gambling channel, and had to acquire a croupier's license for the job.

Since returning to South Africa at the end of 2010, Hayley has kept herself busy in television commercials and further developed her love of Educational theatre, starting Actorvate, a company that uses actors for marketing promotions and produces Educational Roadshows.

She then landed the role as Angie on the television drama, The Wild. Her character is a tough-talking bush ranger who stands little nonsense.

Hayley also began her own show on Darren Scott's online radio station Ballz Visual Radio, in 2013.

Also in 2013, she had guest starring roles in the SABC3 soapie Isidingo (as Hayley, a cunning and manipulative old contact of Len Cooper's) and on the SABC3 casino drama series High Rollers as Tallulah, a showgirl.

In 2014 she guest starred on the Vuzu satirical mockumentary television series Check-Coast.

In 2015 her role on High Rollers was upped to a series regular in Season 2, when the show changed format from a weekly drama to a thrice-weekly telenovela.

In 2017 she had a recurring role on the SABC1 soapie Generations: The Legacy as Elsa van Wyk, a conservative mother who sets out to find her childhood nanny, Gog'Flo (played by Ivy Nkutha). She made her first appearance in the show on Monday, 21 August.
