Bio
Gerald Kyd is a South African-born Scottish actor best known for his starring television roles as Sean Maddox in Casualty (1998-2000 and again in 2006) and as Mark Renbe, a journalist who's always on the lookout for scandal or murder who decides to pursue the bizarre disappearance of Janet Cooper, in the mystery drama television series Persons Unknown, in 2010.
Kyd was born in Pretoria in 1973 and emigrated with his family to the United Kingdom in the mid-1980s. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, immediately joining the Royal Shakespeare Company after graduation.
Kyd became known to British television audiences for his work in the long-running drama Casualty, leaving after two seasons to continue working in the theatre.
He has worked at London's Globe and Hampstead, and with the English Touring Theatre (his performance in Love's Labour's Lost was nominated for the prestigious Ian Charleson Award) and completed a world tour with the Royal Shakespeare Company, playing Trigorin in Anton Chekhov's The Seagull, directed by Sir Trevor Nunn and starring Sir Ian McKellen.
He can also be seen in the independent feature Legacy starring Idris Elba, which was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival.
