The full statement just in... M-Net’s Legacy to come to an end after Season 2 in 2022 Today, 1 December 2021, M-Net (DStv Channel 101) has announced that after a 2-year run of its local telenovela Legacy, the channel will be exploring new avenues to entertain its loyal viewers in order to cater to their new and evolving desire for limited series. Tshedza – the production house for Legacy – will conclude the shooting of the second season in February 2022, however viewers will continue to enjoy the show on their screens until September 2022. “Our viewership surveys guide us to adapt our content to the evolving needs of our customers. Whilst Legacy is a popular show, our M-Net 101 customers have indicated that they now want more limited series rather than long-running telenovelas. The success of our local strategy depends on how well we tune into what our customers would like to see on their screens,” says Nomsa Philiso, Executive Head: Programming, MultiChoice Group. She further added that M-Net and Tshedza are aligned on the change in strategic direction and will be managing the impact on cast and crew. The entities have a long-standing working relationship and will continue collaborating on projects such as the award winning The River which has just been renewed for season 5. “Working with M-Net channel 101 has always been a dream for us as a company, and we thank the channel for their incredible support and encouragement in bringing Legacy to life. All our writers, crew members and actors have poured their hearts and souls into this project. We applaud MultiChoice Group for continuing to support local content and look forward to working on other exciting projects in future,” says Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon, co-owners of Tshedza Productions. “We would like to thank our loyal viewers on M-Net, DStv Channel 101 and Showmax and assure them that we have exciting plans for our content for 2022. We will share more news on our local content offering in due course,” Nomsa Philiso concludes. In its half year results on 11 November, MultiChoice reported that it added 2 692 hours to its local content library, which is now approaching 66 000 hours.

I fully support the sentiment! Just look at Trackers, Still Breathing, Inconceivable, Lioness, Reyka

Quite sad as it was an amazing production - but really a telenovela format which was a limited format than a daily soap. The biggest surprise is that the show films an astouding 7 months in advance before airdates and is a location shoot telenovela which is harder work. I also wonder is the fact that all three Price actresses (Jay Anstey, Reandi Grey, and Mary-Anne Barlow) are all simutaneously pregant which would difficult to have all three missing for months of end for a storyline prospective was the final nail in the coffin to end after Season 2.

Is it true Estate on 3 may be canned as well?
SipheleleMzingi 01 Dec 2021 14:32
Sad. Can't they give this show to Showmax? The statement says, "Our viewership surveys guide us to adapt our content to the evolving needs of our customers". Who are these people who take these surveys? @Trayzagal that, too. I also want to find out about Isono. I saw someone having a fit about it. Is it cancelled?
Shows Editor 01 Dec 2021 15:05
@SipheleleMzingi Regarding Isono: we have repeatedly asked for comment about cancellation, but the channel are staying quiet, which is already a bad sign for the show, or they would simply confirm its renewal. Another clue is that Black-ish 6 is scheduled to start airing on weekdays at 21h30 from 13 January - which of course is Isono's regular slot. It's possible it will still have a second season sometime, but for now the show will be ending after the first season on 23 December.

Thanks, @Shows Editor. That's a bad sign for Isono. Crossing fingers for it, though. We're loosing so many shows this year. Please find out which viewership surveys does Multichoice rely on to make such a decision—if they are published, or not. I would like to read those insights.

I will be sad to see Isono end. It is quite different from what we see on our screens currently and we also don't have many local shows with adult content. I hope MNet invests in more limited series, they have been exceptional in this space ????

To be honest i did not enjoy the show maybe it was too glamorous for my liking but na I wasn't moved even with the writing. In terms of acting i did not get KG(Dineo's) acting it seemed lame. Maybe i still stck to her isidingo role and i think she was the best there. But is was well produced shame

@qavile I also tried watching it for two months or so from its debut, I just couldn't connect. I share the same sentiments re KG, she killed those Katlego and Yvonne characters. I'm 100% behind the idea of producing more limited series.
