Bio

Elzette started her acting career during her final year of BA Drama at the University of Pretoria, with the leading role in a feature film by the late Daan Retief: Beloftes van Môre.

She started freelancing right away and landed the plum female leading role in Die Vlakte Duskant Hebron, an eight episode TV drama for which she was nominated Best Actress in a Drama Series. Later she also received a Best Actress nomination for her role in Torings, the follow-on series of Konings.

During the early 80s Elzette also ''sync''- translated films and dramas at the SABC (to be dubbed into Afrikaans) and two of her films were nominated for Best Translations.

She called a temporary halt to a lucrative film and TV career in Johannesburg and moved to Bloemfontein to join the Performing Arts Council of the Free State where she stayed for five years, performing in school programs, pantomimes, dramas, musicals, comedies and farces.

In 1988 she moved back to Gauteng and was soon approached by Jan Scholtz to play the role of Koekie in Die Binnekring I and 2 opposite At Botha. While living in Pretoria, she also performed in a number of comedies and farces for PACT. She was last seen on stage as Maria-Elena in the hit musical Buddy Holly, which toured South Africa during 1994 and 1995.

She played the female leads in Die Vierde Kabinet (Steffie Gouws) opposite Gys de Villiers, and Arsenaal (Addie Muller), opposite Ian Roberts.

Besides Binnelanders other notable TV appearances include Sewende Laan for SABC2 and Hart van Staal for Kyknet.

Prior to these roles Elzette’s acting career took a back seat as she stepped into the role of director/producer for the musical shows Simply Irresistible and Joseph Clark - The Music of Queen which was produced in South Africa, Italy and Germany.
