Mavuso Simelane is a South African actor best known for his starring role as Samuel in the M-Net drama series Reyka.

Hailing from Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, he graduated from the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance (AFDA) in 2012.

Mavuso made his television acting debut in the role of Sbu in the Season 1 finale of the SABC1 docu-drama series Ngempela, which aired on 6 May, 2014.

The following year he played the guest role of Shaka in the second season of the e.tv police drama series Traffic!.

He also appeared in the CBeebies kids' production Jamillah and Aladdin, which premiered in the UK in November 2015; and in the German miniseries Jana und der Buschpilot, which was filmed in Cape Town.

He next had a guest role in the series finale of the SABC1 romantic comedy-drama series Forced Love (also known by its working title of Goba Msenge) which aired on New Year's Day, 2016 (Season 2, Episode 13).

He also had a cameo as a Mandinka slave in the History Channel's slavery drama Roots, which debuted globally in mid-2016.

In the same year he had another guest starring role, this time as the character Ndoda in an episode of the Mzansi Magic drama series Isikizi which aired on 15 August, 2016 (Season 1, Episode 6).

Mavuso also guest starred as an Olympiad Moderator in the series premiere of another Mzansi Magic drama series - Nkululeko - which first aired on 7 January, 2018.

In the same year he guest starred as Private Ricardo in an episode of the German Cold War espionage series Deutschland 86.

The following year he recurred in two episodes of the Kate Beckinsale-led mystery drama series The Widow, an Amazon Prime Original which also aired on ITV in the UK.

The series, shot on location in South Africa, Wales and Rotterdam, debuted globally on 1 March, 2019.

In addition, he played the guest role of George in the first season of the kykNET police procedural drama series Projek Dina (Project Dina), in an episode which aired on 21 January, 2020 (Season 1, Episode 2).

Mavuso landed his first starring role in television when he was cast as Samuel Zwane in the M-Net drama series Reyka, a co-production between the UK and South Africa.

In the series, his character is a junior detective in the South African Police Service (SAPS). He is proud, strong and ambitious - a straight shooter determined to do everything by the book.

Reyka premiered on M-Net on 25 July, 2021.
