I loved “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy - it was magical, epic and fun. Then New Line Cinema decided to make some more cashing in on the trilogy by the expanding the prequel to The Hobbit books into a movie trilogy. Mind you, The Hobbit is not even a third in size to the 1
st of the Rings book: Fellowship of the Rings.
So the guys had to stuff it like a turkey, add stuff that was not even in The Hobbit to give it tenuous connections to Lord of the Rings trilogy, so as to justify three movies that could have been just one. So after too iffy movies we have The Battle of Five Armies.
So we end up with 2 and half hours of digital film that takes out all the colour and magic from Middle Earth and gives us ultra HD ; ultra clean looking – PS4 game feel. By the time all the mushy stuff comes in, I was ready to check out. Nothing feels fresh or even sincere in the series no more.
So The Hobbit ends with a whimper for me, the story is overblown and the technology takes away from the film, or maybe it was the greed that messed it all up. People trying to coin it as much as possible and even if it means bastardising source material. Hopefully this is the last time one is subjected to Middle Earth ,would like to keep the loveable memories of The Lord of the Rings trilogy in one piece without their poor cousins popping up.
