Mzansi Magic has taken over where
Face Of Africa left off. At the end of the last season of Face Of Africa the producers hinted that the show would be launching a plus size model search too. This didn't happened and the show completely disappeared.
Now, a new series has arrived on the scene. Titled Diamond in the Ruff, the show is on a search for candidates who wouldn't necessarily be considered for the modelling industry. The search is open to candidates of all sizes and aims to turn the winner into a successful professional model.
According to series producer Phindile Mkhabela: "Our model scouts will be specifically looking for young women who aren’t your obvious model candidates - but who, with focus, determination, training and support, can become one of the industry’s finest."
The series premieres on 1 November 201 for a 13-episode season. The search begins with national auditions in eight cities where 13 finalists will be chosen.
The 13 finalists will move to Jozi - into an America's Next Top Model apartment - and from here they'll be groomed by industry professionals, including Lerato Moloi - Face of Africa Finalist and Elizabeth Arden brand ambassador.
The finalists will go leg-to-leg in an adjudication process and one will be eliminated each week.
On the judging panel are: Megan Kruger of the Shine Group, GQ South Africa associate editor and writer Siphiwe Mpye, and stylist, fashion writer and presenter Noni Gasa.
How to auditionThe search is open to women aged between 18 and 25.
It's open to everyone: both plus size and slim size.
You need to a South African citizen or legally resident in South Africa.
The auditions are an open casting call so you can arrive at the venue and sign-up there. You don't need to prepare - the judges will guide you through what you need to do.
It's a whole day process so you need to be available for the day.
Auditions start at 10h00.
