Kick It Up! Wins Bafana Song Contest

The SABC search for a winning Bafana Bafana support song has wrapped with the announcement of the winner.

The track is currently getting airplay on all SABC radio stations and will be the official broadcast anthem for Bafana when they play their Cup games.

The month-long competition resulted in five finalists being up for the title: blast to the past to hear each of the songs ... Bafana Song Contest: Listen And Vote!

The public voted and the winning song is Track Number 4 titled Kick It Up! by Don Clarke and his group The Crutch Mallets. The song won by almost 50% of 10 000 SMS votes received.

In addition to Kick It Up!, Don Clarke has also been involved in making a video of another song of his called Khuthala Bo! This is also about Bafana Bafana and the Cup, as is the video.

The only problem with it is that Leon Schuster also performs in it (someone save us from the horror!).  The video is going to be played during the Cup on all SABC channels.

If you haven't heard Kick It up! yet, here it is:

Just letting you people know that nowhere in this song is Leon Schuster. Don did it by himself. Leon is with him in ANOTHER competition in ANOTHER song called KHUTHALA BO. So just listen to that song carefully again and don't judge so quickly. The song is amazing and A LOT of people are glad he won. I know I am!!!! :)

I did not see the video, but the song is really nice. Just that if i had written it, there would be smaller changes, like the background voices ahould have been more "african" like and the drums could have been changed to more rural as well, but otherwise the song definately represents Banana banana....bafana
