Cape Town TV goes world wide

Cool news ... Cape Town TV has gone world wide. The community station started broadcasting in August 2008 and has been available to Cape Town viewers since then.

The trouble's been that the channel only has one transmitter situated at Tygerberg so you can only tune in if you have an aerial that's in the line-of-sight of Tygerberg. Which I don't.

I've tried finding it with no success so I've never managed to watch.

Until now. Today the channel announced that they've launched a 24-hour live stream on their website here: CTV.

It's a brilliant move I thought. From the sounds of it, the channel's on a mission to make it's mark after overcoming various ups and downs.

Since it's launch the channel has faced numerous challenges including a struggle with ICASA to renew it's license. Things have been resolved and the channel now has a seven year license.

This from station manager Karen Thorne: "CTV has grown substantially over the past three years and has doubled its income in each year of operation. We are now on a sound financial footing and we are planning for the migration to digital broadcasting because we expect to be carried on a digital multiplex towards the end of 2013."

The channel line-up includes original shows with an emphasis on music, events, issues and attractions that characterise Cape Town. It also recently launched it's own news bulletin, on daily at 19h55.

PS: If you're keen on submitting a show to the channel, check out their programme submissions on their site too.

Hope it ain't as bad as Soweto TV which is famous for its repeats and D-grade programmes.

YAY!!! I don't usually watch C-tv, but I do come accross GOOD programmes from the Channel. It does have Potential and will no doubt make it.

Just give it time.

I hope they have quality picture and audio now because I could not bare a minute of it. The last time I checked Soweto TV was just ahead of it!

If Soweto TV is better, then they are doomed.
