Award winning play Nêrens, Noord-Kaap (Nowhere, North Cape) comes to kykNET this month, as a 13-episode series. Three estranged brothers return to their family farm, Nêrens, where secrets, heartbreak and the truth surrounding their mother’s death threaten their redemption. Premieres 31 August at 20h00. The trailer:

The three brothers are played by the same actors who portrayed them in the stage play:

De Klerk Oelofse (Hotel, Die Boekklub, Fynskrif),

Albert Pretorius (SLOT, Fynskrif, Die Bolan Moorde) and,

Geon Nel (Die Boekklub, Suidooster, Vallei van Sluiers).

Frank Opperman (Orkney Snork nie!, Pandjieswinkelstories, Die Uwe Pottie Potgieter) plays the role of their father.

Others in the cast include Ilse Klink, Dean Balie, Tinarie van Wyk-Loots, Marion Holm, Gideon Lombard, Ludwig Binge, Patricia Baadjies, Melissa Willering,Johannes Jordaan, Lehan Swanepoel, and Thommi Swanepoel.

The play is by Nico Scheepers, who adpated it for screen with Saartjie Botha who assisted with text editing.

The scenario:

Lourens Adendorff, farmer and patriarch of this dry kingdom, barely leaves the house anymore - the curtains of his sandstone castle always drawn.

His Dutch wife, Katja, has been dead nearly 20 years and all three of his sons have abandoned him.

Frans, the eldest, still runs the farm but barely speaks a word to his father. Ronnie, the middle child, is divorced in Cape Town and trying to raise his son from a distance.

And Andries, the youngest, their father’s favourite, has shunned them all and has been backpacking around the world for the last couple of years.

The family is in pieces, and the farm is stuck, stagnating in time and place.
