1. OVERVIEW OF THE ISIVIVANA CENTRE
The Isivivana Centre, managed by the Khayelitsha Youth & Community Centre (KYCC) Trust, is located next to the Thusong sports centre, by the Khayelitsha Mall. It opened in June 2016.
It is a hub for social justice organisations, and will offer a number of community services. The ground floor has public facilities including a library, meeting hall, auditorium, classroom, outdoor amphitheater, legal advice office and restaurant.
There are also retail outlets facing the street. The three floors above house 9 rent-paying tenants that are registered Public Benefit Organisations, including Equal Education, Médecins Sans Frontières, Treatment Action Campaign and Social Justice Coalition, among others.
2. OVERVIEW OF THE JOB
The Cinema Project Manager will develop a year-round film-screening programme for the Isivivana Centre’s 120-seater cinema. This will consist of evening screenings, screenings for schools and film festivals. The work will include curation, logistics, relationship-building, marketing and finances.
3. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILTIES
• Establish and manage the Isivivana Cinema project, and develop policy for the Isivivana Cinema
• Develop relationships with local filmmakers and distributors and negotiate screening rights
• Develop a programme of regular film screenings and related events
• Publicise film screenings and related events, and
• Arrange events to accompany film screenings, such as panel discussions, Q&As
• Arrange transport and food linked to screenings
• Develop relationships with film festivals for Isivivana Cinema to become a festival screening venue
• Develop an understanding of the needs of local audiences, and develop local audiences
• Manage relationships with service providers and monitor adherence to terms and conditions
• Responsible for the screening and audio equipment in the cinema
• Provide quarterly reports to the KYCC Trust
• Responsible for all related activities
4. QUALIFICATIONS, PROFILE & EXPERIENCE
• A university degree or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in film, marketing, management and/or the film & television industry.
• Local knowledge and experience of Khayelitsha and/or the greater Cape Town
• Passionate about film and the film industry
• Cape-based, independent, organised, excellent computer skills, driver's license
