Gareth Cliff wins his Idols job back

The verdict is in.

Gareth Cliff needs to be reinstated as a judge on Idols and M-Net needs to pay his legal costs.

This from Judge Caroline Nicholls who gave the ruling in the High Court this morning, stating that she found that a contract existed between them and that it needs to be honoured.

The ruling comes a day ahead of the start of the Idols 12 auditions which begin in Durban tomorrow so it's not like things are going to be totes awks when Gareth plonks himself down on the judging panel, staring the M-Net cameras in the face.

Viva Gareth Cliff, viva! And thank you Dali Mpofu. I love M-Net, but they were wrong to fire Gareth in the first place.

This is M-Net's statement in response to the verdict:

"As ordered by the South Gauteng High Court, and as a good corporate citizen that respects the rule of law, M-Net will reinstate Mr Cliff as a judge on season 12 of Idols SA.

We believe we did the right thing by taking Mr Cliff off the show.

We remain committed to using our platforms to contribute to a united South Africa."

Well, they are basically saying that they are only giving him his job back cos the court told them to. There are labour rules mnet, these should be followed unless he grossly violated his contract terms, you have to follow processes to fire someone. Clearly there is someone with an axe to grind with Gareth at Mnet and if I was him I would keep my head down and keep my nose clean.
