Miners Shot Down wins an Emmy!

The International Emmy Awards have always been a letdown. South Africa has consistently received nominations over the past few years and yet we walk away with nothing.

All that changed on Monday night (23 November) at the 43rd ceremony when controversial documentary Miners Shot Down won the Emmy for Best Documentary.

Produced and directed by Rehad Desai of Uhuru Productions, the film has been an important part of the national discourse surrounding Marikana and has had a notable and genuine impact on the real world with public broadcasters refusing to air it because they're too scared to! Both the SABC and e.tv have been petitioned to air it and both have refused.

Both are also not airing the Emmy award ceremony. Someone should but they never do. South Africa has been represented at the International Emmys for years but none of our broadcasters air it for us when they should.
