Despite load-shedding, the numbers are not bad particularly for the popular shows.

Some shows ratings are down due to loadsheding but some have been dropping all on their own but I'm not going to name them coz their fans are very sensetive towards da truth. Congrats to generations

But let's always keep in mind that ANC was voted and still has millions of supporters neh guys... South African TV watchers have succumbed to mediocrity, its really sad to see top notch productiona not receiving the ratings they deserve... Umlilo, Matatiele, Top Billing, Scandal, Ashes To Ashes

Spongy i couldnt agree more.. You can have snow on SABC 1 from 20:00 - 20:30 however 6 million + people would still tune in.

I believe that Umlilo is the best TV production right now followed by Matatiele, not so sure about Ashes.. I find it very hard to follow.

Thank you @Spongy and Ke Moc, ive been saying this for the longest time!! It seems the 8pm slot on SABC 1 has dedication in general no matter what is on. Umlilo and Matatiel my word!! I have no words, beautiful! The light and sound are even better than all the other etv shows.

People are addicted to sabc 1 for that 8pm timeslot .no matter the competition I believe ppl will forever be loyal to generations .I must say I love matatiele n umlilo ,the production quality is amazing unlike ashes2ashes which seems like an extension of ekasi our stories.

Everyone has their favourites. Just because a show is mediocre to me doesn't mean it is to you. If a show deserves viewership it will get it. For me Scandal is the only watchable show on etv, the rest I just can't seem to get hooked. And considering that Generations started on a bad note with viewership declining rapidly, it shows that people are finding something entertaining about it that brought them back. As they say, one man's meat is another man's poison.

An interesting question is, how come Skeem Saam, a show that plays at 6:30 have more viewership than etv's flagship show, Scandal despite the former playing earlier when some people are still on the road from work? Surely a late time slot is not always an advantage.

01 May 2015 12:05

It is funny because people were convinced that Generations will drop when Ashes arrived. Now they are making baseless excuses as its viewership keep growing. etv should just cancel Ashes, it is dull and unwatchable. Admit that Mfundi Vundla proved you wrong.

01 May 2015 18:56

Mr/Mrs ShowTime, hi, i hope this message finds you well... I get u an ambassador for SABC ands that's nice of you, u are right, everyone is entitled to have their favourites and that's cool. if you haven't noticed or not aware yet, etv has smaller coverage than sabc, it reaches about 5 to 6 million households only, as compared to sabc that reaches well over 10 million. So your skeem saam has a larger audience imprint than etvs flagship show because of such factors, and ofcoz there r other factors like favourites. Yes, Mfundi Vundla along Jacob Zuma have proved us wrong... mental slavery is something to be proud of. on that note FREE YOUR IMAGINATION ????

Show-Time
02 May 2015 23:45

Well, etv along with critics didn't mention or seem bothered by those supposed factors when they "saw a gap" in december 2014. Perhaps you are coming up with a better excuse. There is no mental slavery, just being entertained. In a practical point of view, I know a lot of people who were eager to see the new etv shows, particularly Ashes but they no longer speak of it. Instead they've returned to watching Gen. Even the declining figures do attest to this. Lol, you should be happy to note that the ANC's votes are declining, Zuma was lamenting that last year. Pity we can't say the same for Vundla at the moment. But we can keep our fingers crossed coz anything can change, right?

03 May 2015 16:05

Come on, Zingaphy. I do not hate Ashes, I'm just not impressed. We all know ratings can change, but what is important as viewers is that we are entertained. You like Ashes and I like Gen. No hard feelings. We are just viewers not broadcasters or advertisers.
