You know you are a real soapie addict when you watching the Laanies(people from 7de Laan) and you laugh when they all laugh. Because they laugh effortlessly, at anything and everything, from Oom Oubaas making speeches, Paula's blond moments or even a fly. I swear, they have a laugh conductor counting them into the laugh and out.
Other classics include Isidingo's weird songs they play during some random scene. It's like they audition underground musicians and promise them a magnificent start to their carreer. It's normal to play a song in a lonely scene, but its the songs Isidingo play that are just weird. It creates a weird style of delivering a soapie, like we are in Europe. Please stop it Isidingo, really. Or improve on it, its too awkward and its too soon.
But the most classic, the classic of all classics, the cherry on top classic is the stare! Every soapie does it, when an actor has just finished a monologue, phonecall or a conversation with another actor and they(the soapie) has to go into commercial or another scene and the actor looks into the camera and says nothing. Nothing beats that. My all time favourite stares are with villains. When they just finished saying something sweet or they were crying or angry and they are hugging another actor and they smile. That fake laugh or smile is everything.
My most bizarre moments are when people are angry or have been crying and they run after eachother. Its mostly white people that do this, e.g The Bold and Beautiful. Its hillarious and too unreal, who runs when they are angry or are in tears?
