“Off record, I am glad that I am leaving the show because I am really tired and the kind of life that the show exposes you to, I am not sure I want it. I just wanna do jazz and not have the crazy excitement going on…This is off record and I hope you are not recording this,” says Idols 10 eliminated contestant Roxy McVean just after I finish my interview with her at the media room where M-Net’s head of publicity is sitting with us. But as I a journalist, how do I avoid not publishing such an honest outlook even though my recorder is no longer recording. In my career, I have realised in showbiz, honest answers are given off record. But hey, I am journalist mina.

Makisto: How do you feel about tonight’s eliminations?
Roxy: I feel fine hey. I think the people that are there [Top 8] deserve to be there – they all are phenomenal. I mean, what happened happened and it’s for the best you know. I am just happy I got to top 10. That was my ultimate goal. My first goal was to get to the judges round and I did which was rad.
Makisto: Do you think there was something you could have done to avoid tonight’s elimination?
Roxy: You know for “Shut up and drive” [by Rihanna] which was episode 11 I got stage fright when I got on stage…so I thought if I did make top 9 that I would come back and redeem myself. I thought if I did “Someone like you” [by Adele]…to me it gave myself…ja it was nice that I gave myself that confidence boost again so it was nice. I think I did the best I could have…
Makisto: And that was a great performance hey
Roxy: Thank you.
Makitso: Now can you tell us about your stay in the Idols house…who your best friends are, the kinds of bonds that you formed.
Roxy: Being in the Idols house was amazing. Ike and Gavin really looked after us. My best friends in the house are definitely London and Tumi…and Kyle.
Makisto: What did you guys do to keep yourselves busy?
We play a lot of Fifa on Xbox…and when we are not playing Fifa we are singing
Makitso: Who are you going to miss the most?
Roxy: I’m gonna miss London the most.
Makitso: Why?
Roxy: He is my best friend. We came to Idols together and I was hoping that we would leave together.
Makisto: Did you guys know each other before the show?
Roxy: We met just before the show. I then started working at the same place he started working at and our friendship became really tight after the past few months.
Makisto: And Randal last week said that your performance was the worst for the night. How did you feel about that?
Roxy: I wanted to tell him that his hair was the worst for the night.
Makisto: [Chuckles away] From here, what will you be doing going forward.
Roxy: From here are really just wanna take a break from singing. My vocal chords are exhausted. I really wanna take a nice break and hopefully next year do some stuff again more jazz as well. Jazz comforts my soul.
Makisto: Do you think Idols gave you a platform to showcase your talent and possibly be discovered? Would you say that?
Roxy: I definitely would say that. I mean the exposure they give you is crazy and also the airtime. It’s unbelievable how much…uhm, ja…I hope something comes from this. It’s really cool.
Makisto: Ok thank you so much for your time and all the best for the future hey.
Thank you, thank you much.
Makisto: I don’t wanna keep you for long man since other journalists also wanna talk to you. Thanks for your time and we wish you all the best man.
