Coming up on Carte Blanche this Sunday (10 August, 2014):

Earthquake Shakes SA

This week startled South Africans evacuated buildings and ducked for cover as the earth shook to a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale. Earthquakes are largely unknown in this part of the world, but the tremors reverberated throughout the country and as far afield as Mozambique and Botswana. Surprisingly, seismology experts say it’s not entirely uncommon. What has made our earth move? Carte Blanche finds out if there’s more to come.

Producer: Bernadette Maguire
Presenter: Derek Watts

Classified Ad Scams

From buying a used car to clearing your cupboards, online classifieds present a tempting platform for buyer and seller interaction. But how do you know if the person on the other side of the keyboard is trying to scam you out of your goods? Carte Blanche decided to see just how easy it is to obtain a sim card without providing identification or proof of address before using this “untraceable” number to place online ads.

Producer: Bernadette Maguire
Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender

Texting While Driving

Imagine navigating your way through cars, pedestrians and bicycles for a full kilometre while blindfolded. Not possible you say? New research reveals that texting while driving is as dangerous as driving completely blind. Even more shocking is that this habit is now one of the leading causes of death in the world. Carte Blanche goes behind the wheel to put this theory to the test.

Producer: Jo Munnik
Presenter: David O’Sullivan

Carte Blanche is on M-Net on Sundays at 19h00.

I don't understand how there can still be so many people who text and drive - I see someone doing it on nearly every trip!! - either texting or phoning and I'm stumped every time. It feels as if everyone's saying how bad it is and yet when it comes to actual practice the words mean nothing.
