 (Premiered  Tuesday, 15 July 2014).

kykNET soon to be in High Definition (HD)

On 12 August kykNET will join the league of M-Net, SuperSport and other entertainment channels on DStv when the channel becomes available in high definition (HD). Viewers with HD decoders will see the HD version of kykNET on DStv channel 144, while viewers with normal decoders will still be able to see the standard definition version of kykNET on channel 144.

“This is great news for both us and our viewers,”  says Karen Meiring, director of Afrikaans channels. “Now our viewers will feel as if they are in the office with At Koster in Binnelanders while he cooks up his plans, and riding along on the emotional rollercoaster in Boer Soek ‘n Vrou!”

“We’re delighted to honour our commitment to viewers in which we promised to keep increasing their viewing pleasure. kykNET now becomes the first and only Afrikaans channel in the world to deliver programming in HD.”

Mark Rayner, COO for MultiChoice also commented: “We are pleased to make kykNET available to our customers in HD – it enhances our current family of HD channels on DStv. The HD viewing experience gives our customers the best quality picture and sound, in-line with international television viewing trends.”

Meiring says the phasing in of HD on kykNET will be a seamless process. “Our producers have been working in HD camera- and production equipment for some time, which enables them to deliver programmes in HD immediately.”

Only viewers with HD PVR and Explora decoders will be able to watch kykNET in HD. “Now there’s yet another reason to purchase an Explora, especially now that we’re in the process of taking kykNET’s offering to the next level. The Explora, available at R1999, will bring you a whole new world of TV,” says Meiring.

Even though kykNET is now available in HD, viewers with older single view decoders need not worry – all the great entertainment on kykNET will still be available to them.
