2014 Emmy nominees - and snubs

Nominees Kerry Washington, Matthew McConaughey and Jon Voigt.

Nominees for the 66th annual Emmy Awards were announced in Tinseltown on Thursday (10 July) and delivered a frenzy of nods to two shows. Game of Thrones received a total of 20 nominations, followed by Fargo with 18.

Even though the two series are such dominant contenders, other favourites also received an explosion of nods. The final season of Breaking Bad snapped up 16 nominations and True Detective delivered acknowledgement for both Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.

Netflix's original series Orange Is The New Black (which we haven't seen in South Africa yet) also garnered much attention, particularly for the actresses.

The overall list is flawed though because of gaping oversights. As usual, there are shows that haven't been nominated that deserve to be. This year's omissions are glaring, illogical and unfounded.

As you'll see ... Vikings, Bates Motel and Defiance have been ignored. Only Vikings has received a nomination in the category "Outstanding Special And Visual Effects In A Supporting Role" - a category no-one cares about. Three of the best series of the year have been snubbed.
