Islam Television (iTV) will be launching on DStv Channel 347 on Monday, 18 June 2012. The channel will be replacing the current Islam Channel.

“In response to our Muslim subscribers expressing a need for more locally produced Islamic content, MultiChoice decided to replace Islam Channel with the locally-produced iTV channel. iTV is a vibrant and informative channel with a wide spectrum of programmes underscored by an Islamic ethos, said Aletta Alberts, General Manager Content, MultiChoice.

The change will happen in two phases with Islam Channel being removed on Thursday, 31 May 2012. There will be a break in transmission as testing for the new channel is undertaken.

According to iTV CEO Farhad Omar, “ITV’s programming includes a mix of Islamic themed spiritual, social entertainment and lifestyle programmes. This diverse mix of programming ensures balanced and culturally appropriate television content 24/7.”

Some of the programmes offered by the channel includes, Haram Crossover, a live crossing to the Holy Masjids in Makkah and Madina for live imagery of the masjids whilst listening to the melodious recitations of Holy Quran. ML Suleiman Moola, a program focused on managing successful relationships, and also provides insight to issues pertaining to women while in Muslims Got Talent, iTV scouts the country’s schools looking for hidden Islamic talent. The winning school gets a computer lab with 45 laptops, plus prizes for the students who win.

iTV will also feature current affairs and local and international news as it breaks as well as tantalizing food shows to make even the amateur chef at home a master chef.
