From the press release:
The Top 14 contestants were in floods of tears in last nights Results Show as Jarred de Kock and Dominique “Nicky” Burger’s Idols dreams came to an end.
To mix things up a little this week, Colin invited Bjorn, Munro, Caroline, Andriëtte, Jody, Carla and Dominique onto stage with him. Were they in the judges’ top half or bottom half? Colin made the contestants wait through an ad-break before revealing the results of the all-important viewers’ vote.
This week the viewers’ vote corresponded exactly with the judges’ vote and the group sweating it out on stage with Colin were safe. Which meant that Sabelo, Daniel, Jarred, PJ, Nicky, Tender and Yolanda were in danger…
The judges and the viewers voted to give Sabelo another chance. Yolanda and Daniel, too, were saved but then, suddenly, Jarred became evening’s first casualty. A downcast Jarred admitted to Colin that he had been “ready for anything” and that he expected to be one of the judges’ bottom two. Poor PJ, Nicky and Tender watched with mixed feelings as Jarred performed for the last time - two of them had dodged a bullet, but which two?
Colin stretched the bad news out as long as possible, but eventually the axe had to fall, and it fell on the 16-year-old blonde from Boksburg. “Was it harder than you expected?” Colin asked sympathetically. “No!” she sobbed… Nicky could not manage to control her emotions enough to sing one last time, until her fellow Top 14 contestants jumped on stage to support her.
Next Sunday’s show (7 October) is the final chance for viewers to vote their favourites into the all-important Top 10 phase. Voting opens at the start of the show and viewers can vote via landline, SMS, MXit or on the Idols website at www.mnet.co.za.
The voting lines will close just before the end of Monday evening’s live Results Show. (8 October). And then the action moves to the Standard Bank Arena for the first Spectacular, recorded on 12 October - tickets are on sale from Computicket.
