  RDP House Fraud (11 February)
On Speak Out tonight:

Episode Title: RDP House Fraud
Broadcast Date: Wednesday, 11 February 2009 at 21h30
Channel: SABC2

Sarah Molokomme is a widow with children, an unemployed single parent, with hopes to find a house to call a home. Being without any income she can’t afford a home, so the only hope for her is an RDP house.

The government introduced the RDP project as an initiative to house people like Sarah. Aware of this project she approached her local ward councilor. He along with a housing official devised a plan to make quick cash out of her desperation.

Vusi Mduli the ward councilor in Tsakane told Sarah that she could buy an RDP house for R20 000 and referred her to Miriam at the Tsakane housing department. Excited by the prospect of getting a house for her children, Sarah rushed over to meet Miriam at the Tsakane housing department to confirm these seemingly wonderful preposition she was told. Miriam confirmed this to her and urged her to get the money that instant to avoid loosing this offer. Sarah rushed off to the bank and withdrew her life savings.

She rushed back to the Department of Housing in Tsakane, met with Miriam again and handed over the R20 000. The deal was made, entered on the system and sealed with the housing departments’ stamp. Sarah now held in her hand her life’s dream, the title deeds proudly waived high in her grasp.

“Give us two weeks to vacate the current occupants”, she was told. Two weeks past and her dream became a reality or so it seemed. Armed with her title deeds and her children in her arms, she gathers her furniture and off she trots to her new RDP house.

Upon arrival she finds a man occupying a house that she had bought. This man tells her that the house is his and produces his own title deeds that make him the rightful owner of the house. Sarah produced hers and discovered that they were exactly the same. They can’t both own one house. This is where Sarah’s troubles begin.

some people are very naive eish Cody, she said she trusted Mirriam cos she's a woman like her and appealed to her woman to woman. Mara mirrian a kezwa niks!!!! Now she's worse off than she was, no house and no money.

I also did a back door car licence (years ago), can't remember how much i paid, but it was a lot of money. The cops stopped me while i was waiting for the permanent licence, they saw right thru the fake (temp). I had to pay them not to arrest me (even went with them to atm) plus they took the fake away. Tried to contact my connection and he was NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. So i can sort off relate to Sarah.

I was impressed that there's still people out there who can go draw R20k at a drop of a hat like that.well i suppose she was saving etc...

anyway yes she should've realised that by not following the law she was taking a huge risk.anyway its good that she went on air to expose such things cause now people will be reluctant to take the back door approach

you could see corruption on her face, even when she was making those phone calls. so they gained 18000.00 all in all for a FREE house??

Reply from: Cody Thursday, February 12, 2009 12:32 PM

HA Dima that's bad!!! nowadays you cant get a licence without bribing these instructors even if you are good in driving and you do everything right, they will still say you did something wrong hai!!

my colleague said that she went to the testing station with a police because she tried 5 times not getting the license because she didnt have R2500 or R3500, i think that is the way people should go about it.

I’ve learned that some people would kill his/her blood just for the sake of money. They would do anything I mean anything. I’m referring to this woman although I dint watch the show. She knew she was desperate & she saw a chance of making quick cash. Whether it was the last money she had, she didn’t care about that.......nc nc nc abanye abantu!!!!

As for the R20000, it must be money she got after her husband's passing, phela R20 000 is not money you just save nje.

Rene the customer services manager requested her to go to an avidavit then she's gonna take it to director and then take it from there. Somehow i have a feeling she's not gonna see her money again. Mirriam is still working at the department of housing.

Vusi Mduli the ward councilor in Tsakane told Sarah that she could buy an RDP house for R20 000 and referred her to Miriam at the Tsakane housing department.

But guys Sarah followed what she believed to be the procedure..so we can only say it is an organised scam by the councilor and  employee in the housing department.

Well i dont blame Sarah ... desparate times calls for desparate measures and when you are desparate, you only focus on the way out.

Shem on that counsilor and Mirriam for celebrating on other poeple's misery

This is so sad -

Most probably from a relation abroad or Zimbabwe.

Guys pulease dont buy licences - you endanger not only yourself but others as well - I was almost hit by a guy who obv bought his licence coz he simply didn look in a rear and side mirror to see me behind him in the encroaching lane. He decided to drive right into me - thanks to my formula one driving tactics I saved some lives that day!!!

Seriously - its not worth it. He WOULD have died as I was not driving a small car -
