Season 4
Season 4 promises higher drama, more action and twisted plots as the series, which contrasts the worlds of northern Joburg with the adrenaline-filled, bustling streets of Soweto, returns.
Shona Ferguson returns for another season as JB, with Connie Ferguson as Mavis and Boity Thulo as Mpho, alongside other senior cast members.
This season also sees new characters debut, including Sello Maake Ka-Ncube as the new villain, Rolex; and Ayanda Thabethe as stripper and pole-dancer Aliyah.
Also new this season is Themba Ndaba as the crooked police officer, Ngema; Kamo Modisakeng as Bassie, Mavis' beautiful and naive niece who is the picture of innocence until she finds herself falling in love with a much older man; Loyiso MacDonald as Africa Mbatha, the cleanest politician in the province with a bright future ahead of him; and Tsholo Monedi as Olga, Mmabatho's favourite daughter who can do no wrong in her mother's eyes.
Gail Mabalane, who played the recurring role of Vicky Mofokeng in the first two seasons, returns for Season 4 where she finds herself working at Paradise – Joburg's most upmarket strip club.
The theme this season is "journeys to redemption". Mavis tries to redeem broken family bonds, while JB, who has lost everything, is desperate to reconnect with loved ones in the midst of startling historic revelations.
A first for Rockville, this season also tackles a pertinent socio-economic issue which is currently very topical in South Africa – that of teenagers dating older, married men.
The season is also set apart from previous editions in that there are now two main villains, whose paths eventually cross.
Rockville is produced by Ferguson Films with Bobby Heaney as series producer. The executive producers are Connie and Shona Ferguson, director is Johnny Barbuzano and the series is written by Phathutshedzo Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon.
The theme music was composed by Psyfo and the score was by Joel Assaizky.
