Ngempela is a South African docu-drama television series produced by Nine Nine Productions which dramatises actual tabloid stories which range from romance and unrequited love to raw ambition, back-stabbing, dishonesty and intrigue, with comments by the actual individuals the stories portray.
The series seeks to translate the world of tabloid newspaper into a unique television experience – telling these Mzansi stories without being overly sensational and controversial.
The self-contained episodes feature stories ranging from romance and unrequited love to raw ambition and back-stabbing, dishonesty and intrigue.
The series stories are introduced via an actual printed tabloid poster introducing the viewer into the coming intrigue. Every episode ends with comments by the actual individuals the stories portray.
Ngempela presents distinct and recognisable tabloid stories in a dramatic, shocking and yet funny way.
Produced by Nine Nine Productions, Ngempela is produced by Inayet Motara with executive producer Dumisani Phakathi. The head writer was Gwydion.
