TV Programs that need to make a comeback
We’ve seen the worst and best in TV programs over the decades. With all these wonderful years behind us, there are certain TV shows that stole our hearts, but to date, have never returned them.

These were the type of shows that compelled you to pretend you were not home, in order to keep the nagging lover or chatty friends at bay.

We’ve waited so long for their comeback on our screens, that even the World Cup (which we thought was centuries away) came and left us, but still... nothing.

Honestly, I would seriously pay “good money” for the comeback of these following shows: (I’m willing to pay anything less than R100. Lol)

1. ULULU UBUYILE

I would love to watch this “horror” drama series for one simple reason... I’ve never really watched it. I remember catching a glimpse of the premiere of the show, which seemed very much like any other drama, until that woman (I would believe she was Lulu) changed and turned into a zombie-like creature, then an owl. That was the first and last time I watched Ululu. Since then, every time I heard the opening song, my sister and I would sprint straight to our room and hide under piles of blankets. It must have been the scariest thing on TV because I clearly remember that none of my friends dared watch it. If we were to watch it now, almost 2 decades later, I imagine we would all feel very silly, especially after we’ve watched “genuine” horrors like the Freddy Krueger movies and the Exorcist.

2. RUGRATS

I’m not making reference to the cartoons or the other versions of the show. I’m talking about the “real” Rugrats, who were actual children that caused serious havoc in their neighbourhood. The show must have been shot in the 70s or 80s and it was undeniably, hilariously entertaining.

3. PURE MONATE SHOW (PMS)

I know there was some drama around bringing it back onto our screens, but can’t we just forget about the drama and have it back on our TVs already. In my opinion, PMS was by far the funniest show to come out of South Africa. From the scenes in the kitchen with Matute (David Kau); to the Dictator and the famous “Re a swimmer” scenes; Chris Forrest and his ridiculous inventions; then there was Ronnie as the newsreader and who can forget “Survivor Alexandra”. Humour at its’ best.

4. ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN

This show mirrored the evils of child abuse in such a dramatic fashion, that the scenes have remained engraved in my memory. Although there are certain scenes which are humorous, especially when Huck's bestfriend Tom Sawyer was around, this tale about young Huck is rather heartbreaking. It would be fitting to have this show back on our screens, primarily for Child Abuse awareness.

So, which shows would you like to see making a comeback?

Ifa Laka Mthethwa, Mopeme, Lesilo and the likes did make brief comebacks, so those are excluded. lol

1. Sgudi Snaysi (Sdumo)- What a cracker all actors were top calibre, Daphney Hlomuka(Sis May), Joe MAfela(Sdumo),Thoko, Louisa were all talented actors still can't get over those "I told you so" faces Louisa used to make to Sis MAy when talking about Sgumo.

2. Kwakhala Nyonini - Classic village humour  - 'Umfazi we phepha"(Ntombi's mother in Generations) gave me endless fits of laughter the way she use to patronise the other village idiots and call her husband Bra Joe and smoke those long cigarrettes and blow smoke in the air as if she was a millionaire, and how every argument resulted in her telling everyone she's the legitimate wife (Umfazi wephepha) Beauty always threatening to live the poligamous relationship and Mfaniseni struggling to keep his huge. Also introduced us to (Cijimpi) Menzi Ngubane as a budding poligaminst lol I still remember the name of one of his wives- Nofanazile please confirm they were both Ndebele and they were sisters only to reach KZN and find the Chief Wife there

3. Hlala Kwabafileyo - Once again Daphney at her best and Ruth Cele forever wrote the words "Mamgo" into black culture. Very sad story.

4. Mind Your Language - This came out at a time when my own English was still a bit dodgy so I didn't get to fully enjoy it but the few joke I got were hilarious

Will think of more and be back

Cartoons

lol this is a bit off but there was a carton show called Bo ra le fau fau with these guys fighting in space  and travelling around in space ships. I uysed to love that show but it played at 4PM right after Kideo so I would be seating on the sofa  and wishing all kinds of evil things to happen to Mr Chinwag so I could watch my Bora le fau fau.

On Kideo itself I use to like Mrs Pepperpot and the guitar player i think his name was Rosi Pedro or something like that.

I used to enjoy the bee boy "Archie" who was searching for his parents thing the theme song was

Hamba kakuhle Archie
Nkwenkwana yenyosi

Also enjoyed the frog show called Izigigaba zechibi

Theme song was like

Izigigaba ze chibi
U jonathan no Hillary
ngabangani abancane echibini lezigigaba

I would have included Emzini wezinsizwa but SABC1 milked the shyt out of that show until they really had no more story lines left. By the time it ended the strong and fear some Mkhize was nothing but a old hunched over khehla

Nice one Pru
lol pelepele ka Emzini...dont wanna see that show back in a looong time.

Im enjoying repeats tsa friday on sabc 2...First it was Masakeng, Mopheme, Bophelo ke semphekgo, Mokgonyana mmatswale..and the zulu drama where they all say "together!!" ..dang those people act in the most theatrical way ever, the lips also do the acting its too damn funny.
Im enjoying this dramas bcos when they aired i was a kid and i ddnt follow the storylines, ..... i forgive the bad acting and what not....its all for nostalgia.

What i'd like to have back....hmmmmm***...tough one, because there is potentially a lot. Im loving the new shows...and sadly i mean the american serieses to be specific.
Cartoons...i'd like to have a couple of things back on kiddies tv
Justice league and Superman ..... i can never grow too old for them
Recess
Speaking of rugrats...i wanna have little rascals back
Looney tunes
Duck win duck
...lets ger dangerous!!!
Kideo was pretty good...aww...boing boing boing boing shh sh sh sh
Sonic the hedgehog .....think i saw it on etv a while ago
Voltron
X-men
...i watch'em on youtube but i see them on sabc 3 on accasion

used to love The young hercules..(with Ryan Gosling)..watched it recently and boy was it bad...but i think i wouldnt mind it back.

Dynamite Diepkloof Dudes... I used to love those boys.. I remember how I used to run from school... well, if there's one boy I want to see back on my screen it's Sicelo Dlamini - i used to have a mini crush on him back then.

@LaPam... I remember The Triplets....

I saw the last bit of what was playing on Friday.. and I swore it was "Together mzala".... I will definitely be watching this week.

There was this one, "Le tla mpona" i think it only had about seven episodes that one. It was over so soon. The main character loved le good life in the middle of a deserted village.. and he would call whisky are ke ke whiksy....

And Family Matters would really be nice. aboMartin are here so could we please have Family Matters..

And definitely Family Ties with Michael J Fox.

And definitely The Nanny named Fran..

Ohh.. There was an Afrikaans drama.. two Afrikaans dramas actually.. first it was Arsenaal with Ian Roberts's brilliant acting... then there was Een Skoenlapper.. it was about this disease that kills you within 7days... I would definitely want to see that again. Its just that back then they would play at dishwashing time.. and my mom would so maar switch the TV off and point at the kitchen...//shakingmyhead///

I'm glad it's back, I just love it when they go "Touch my heart, feel the beat" - that's killer man.

All you need is Love??? Did you guys really like that show? Eish, I just wasn't too sure about it.

Do you guys remember the cartoon Sheera? We always used to fight about it cos every gal wanted to be Sheera.

BOP TV was killer. It had the best cartoons - that's were I first saw the Ninja Turtles, TinTin, Care Bears, Smuffs, etc. Their kiddies program was called Teeny BOP.

The funniest thing about BOP TV was that they had a Mangope insert every hour. It was so irritating. hehehehe....

@ladyjay - I think is was Masinya. Was it the guy or the name of the drama?

Do you guys know that about 5 years ago they used to play these dramas during the day, around 12/1pm. I'm not sure if they still play them now, but I think 2 years back they were still playing.

@Green Arrow the story of the homeless kids and the guy forever acting as a pastor is Bitso lebe ke Seromo. I also loved In the Heat of the Night, i think it was some American cop drama but had sotho voice overs. Ngomcibelo ka mokibelo. And the old version of Jam Alley with V mash. She's the best by far. I remember they used 2 have big bowls of cheese curls at the counter behind the contestants. Do they still do that? @Maud yeah i remember Dina le Baji, acted by the late Henry Cele. Though i never really watched. I found that guy 2 scary. And sum witchcraft drama called Ke Bona Boloi. Hayi old stories used 2 be creepy yoh! Comedies:The Jamie Fox Show, Yes Moesha. The Parkers, with Monique havin' a big crush on Professor Oglavee or whatever his name was. Good old days!

You gotta admit though that Yizo Yizo was one of the best drama series to ever hit our screens. It was hard-core.

Remember how people started naming their shops and hangout spots after the show.

Don't worry the townships are much better now, they have transformed to "townburbs". lol
