Cochrans demise

Q

So thanks to Brandons tears Cochran got booted to Redemption Island. I just have to put that cracker of a line he delivered in here... "Talking to Brandon about strategy is like talking to you {Jeff} about shirts that aren't blue" How brilliant is that??!!!!! Loved that. So now the old Upolu are going to have to turn on each other so we will see who cracks first. I bet Brandon will find something to boo hoo about. Coach will have to find a new student.

As rubbish as Cochran's been, he's had moments of genius and for that reason I was sorry to see him go.

That said, he needs redemption for what he did to Dawn so his fate seems very apt. I'm very shocked that Roach has lasted as long as he is - Ozzy too. You'd think it would have been their top priority to get rid of them but they've both managed to ingratiate themselves with everyone - which worries me a lot. Espesh when it comes to Coach. It's down to the wire now. They need to get rid of him soon!

>>That said, he needs redemption for what he did to Dawn<<

Did he really do anything bad towards Dawn?  She was completely aware of what he was planning to do, and he did give the option of joining him.  Instead, she stuck with her tribe despite knowing that Cochran didn't get along with them.

So while the two of them had bonded intially, eventually it reached a point where they felt differently about the best way for them to progress in the game.  Neither of them seemed to harbour any ill-will towards the other, so it looked like a fairly amicable "break-up".

But he did Cit, he betrayed her at the moment it mattered most. When she tried so hard to convince him to stick with their tribe and he flipped immediately after - he turned on her bigtime in that moment. Even though she was aware of it, he still did it.

I agree about their break-up though, it did seem amicable. That's just because Dawn's such a nice person.

I'm with you Tashi - think it will come down to either Albert or Sophie  - am rooting for Sophie (because Al has had moments of arrogance). These few weeks have been too predictable - Not sure if the Ozzy-Roach alliance (made at reward challenge) will pull through to final 3. Hantz Jnr.s dad was just as nauseating.

But by the same token, couldn't Dawn's decision to stick with her tribe be seen as a betrayal of Cochran?  After all, she's sided with the very people who have driven him to flip.

But this is probably something we're not going to agree on.

I also don't think Cochran had any choice but to flip.  If he'd stayed with his tribe then he was never going to make it to the end, so he had to make the switch.  It may not have worked out for him (and that's partly because he didn't seem to do much beyond that flip), but it offered a better chance for him than staying with his old tribe.

So if the "betrayal" was the only realistic option open to him then is it really fair to criticise him for it?

Fair enough point Cit', fair enough.

But, you're right, we aren't going to agree. I refuse to believe that him and Dawn couldn't have changed the status quo if they'd stuck together 200%. I still think him and Dawn could have shaken things up if they'd committed to each other properly and formulated a plan.

So true re-Hantz Jnr's dad Wonderlad - he was appaaaalling. Bizarre how his energy's exactly the same as Poison Dwarf's, with a bit more height.

Such as?  Two people teaming up together isn't going to be able to do much against an alliance of 4 (the remaining members of their tribe) and an alliance of 6 (Coach's tribe).  Being committed is all very well and good, but if you don't have the numbers on your side it's going to come to naught.

Roach's 6 were too tight for Cochran and Dawn to infiltrate - Dawn could see that but Cochrane took a chance and it backfired.

Ozzy's worst move was sending himself so early to Redemption Island. They stood a better chance getting rid of Cochrane and having a vengeful Christine return to take Roach's neck.

Meanwhile am hoping that Dawn gets some fan reward. But knowing American audiences they will possibly give it to Hantz Jnr (ugh)

So the finale is a week away and Brandon managed to get himself in the book of dumbest Survivor moves ever :-/ . Was quite happy to see him go because this seasons crop of brain surgeons may just fall for his Damscus Road story at tribal and buy that he is a good guy etc. So we are now left with Coach, Albert, Sophie, Rick and Brandon/Ozzy. Only Ozzy is likely to get full jury approval. If he doesn't get to the final anyone can win because none of them will walk it.

^ Unless Brandon beats Ozzy in the final Redemption Island Arena ;)

Please let that NOT happen!

I still maintain that they would have been stronger together than apart. Apart they crumbled but together they would have had a chance at least. They should have worked on Whitney. She seemed quite partial to them ... if they had Whitney they would have gotten Keith and would have had the foursome.

So at least Brandon didn't win. I have to say I feel a bit duped as Edna would say. We ended up with a winner who had a non-edit, they did little to endear her to us as 90% of the screen time went to Ozzy, Coach, Cochran and Brandon. This has happened before and it leaves the viewer feeling a bit hollow. Don't get me wrong I like Sophie, in fact if I had been there in person I probably would've been closer to her than the others. Its just the way the story of this season unfolded she did not play much of a part in it. As Rick said at the final tc none of the jury wanted to vote for any of them. It was a good season overall although a bit short on awesome moves and blindsides. I suspect we may not have seen the last of Cochran or Brandon, I tend to avoid Survivor on the net because we are so far behind for fear of spoilers but I wouldn't be surprised to see either one again...

So interesting Q ... I loved the season and finale but now that you mention it, I only became aware of Sophie and even Albert, late in the season. I also really like Sophie but you're right, we didn't get to properly know her. The first time we got true insight into her was in the final week.

The reason I enjoyed the season so much is because I'm thrilled about the crushing of Roach - specifically that he got so far and then plunged - I would have felt very differently if he'd won though. But yes, things would have been even better if Sophie had been a proper part of the story.

Tashi, you didn't see a difference in Coach this season? You think he was/is the same this season as his previous two seasons?

Citanul

One of the reasons we didn't get to see much of Sophie is part of a bigger problem with returning players.  They get brought back because they were popular and therefore are going to get more screen time because of that.  They also tend to be "larger than life" characters who would tend to dominate screen time even if they weren't returnees.

Another reason is that this season had fewer of the classic Survivor moments.  We saw an alliance formed on Day One that made it all the way through to the end so there wasn't a lot of scheming going on from members of that alliance, apart from Albert who appeared to at times consider breaking up the alliance but never went through with it.  And the only scheming that took place was the elimination of Elyse early on and Cochran jumping ship.

So since Sophie wasn't involved in any of that sort of thing and wasn't crazy like Brandon, we didn't get to see as much of her.  Rick was also largely anonymous for the same reasons.

I'm another one who likes Sophie.  She was refreshing change from the typical bikini-clad beauty queen/model/actress that we usually see, and I think she played the best game.

>>Tashi, you didn't see a difference in Coach this season? You think he was/is the same this season as his previous two seasons?<<

I did Sabre. Last season he was into Eastern religion and this season it was Christianity (with no explanation for the change). The rest was all the same as previous seasons.
