Universal Channel September 2012 Highlights

SERIES

The Mentalist Season 3
Mondays from 24 September at 20h00

Mentalist 3

As the third season of The Mentalist opens, observational genius Jane (Simon Baker) is still recovering from the previous season’s climax, where his arch-nemesis Red John saved Jane from a copycat killer, but kidnapped his psychic friend Kristina Frye (Leslie Hope).

Warped pride might have led the psychopath John to rescue Jane, but the odds that Kristina will also survive the serial killer’s custody seem remote. This leaves Jane - who blames himself for the situation - beset by self-doubt, questioning whether he should abandon his pursuit of the man who killed his family, and even quit crimefighting altogether.

So when a new case comes in, and the California Bureau of Investigation need Jane’s unique skills, Lisbon (Robin Tunney) is going to have a hard time getting him back in the saddle...

Rookie Blue 3
Mondays from 24 September at 20h50

Rookie Blue Season 3

After two years on the job, the cops of Rookie Blue aren’t quite the novices they
were - but they’ve still got a lot to learn.

As the new series hits Universal, McNally (Missy Peregrym) is coming to the end of her three month suspension for jeopardising the undercover operations - and hence potentially the life - of veteran Sam Swarek (Ben Bass).

But that just means it’s time for a hearing which will either reinstate her on the force, or end her policing career for good. And no sooner is that out of the way than she gets involved in a messy situation where a drunk driver collides, quite literally, with a missing child case.

And did we mention that the drunk driver in question is played by none other than William Shatner?

Meanwhile, there are more rookies coming into the system - and when former
soldier Nick Collins (Peter Mooney) arrives for his first day at 15 Division, one
officer is in for a shock.

COMEDY

Two and a Half Men Season 5
Tuesdays from 11 September at 20h00

taahm_september_2012

The hit comedy continues, with the season’s opening salvo including the spectacular 100th episode in which Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) must fly to London to make sure his stalker Rose (Melanie Lynskey) is still there. And if she is, why does he keep seeing her face everywhere back in Malibu?

Meanwhile, Charlie’s nephew Jake (Angus T Jones) is growing up - he’s about to move school and start junior high, but scary stories from his uncle and dad Alan (Jon Cryer) leave him unsure he’ll survive the experience.

As ever, many of the laughs come from the Harper brothers’ dating misadventures, which also provide a steady stream of guest stars - so you’ll see Janeane Garofalo as a woman who starts behaving rather oddly after a night with Alan, and Ming-Na as judge Linda, whose relationship with Charlie gets off to a shaky start - sufficiently so that he has to get himself arrested
in order to have another chance at seeing her.

FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIES
Fridays at 20h00

Friday Movies September

Christina Milian plays a sassy Latina cheerleader who moves from a tough
school to snobbish West Los Angeles when her mother remarries in Bring It
On: Fight to the Finish
. The film follows her battle to win her rightful place
on her new school’s ultra-competitive cheerleading team.

Uptight Richard Clayton (Office Space’s Ron Livingston) is a successful selfhelp author with a beautiful fiancée (Neve Campbell) - but there’s something missing in his life. Adopted, he has no idea who his birth parents were. When he finds them, will he wish the trashy Menures (Danny DeVito and Kathy Bates) had remained Relative Strangers?

Suffering a mid-life crisis, Morgan Roberts (David James Elliott) returns to
the summer camp of his youth in The Rainbow Tribe. Might the motley crew
of children he’s counselling be just what he needs to sort him out?

Universal Channel is on DStv, Channel 108.
