Movie Highlights for December

Coming up in December

SABC1’s prime-time line-up on a Saturday is dominated by soccer, maybe it’s for the better as there’s nothing worth watching on their channel this month - don’t they realize that most people would be on leave and would be looking for some entertainment in one form or the other. I mean they could have really cashed in with a kick*sss line up instead they give us crap. SABC2 is somewhat better in their offerings and SABC3 is off the chart – they mean serious business. E-tv’s Sunday line-up is by far the best and M-Net is not too far behind, but I think they could have had a better line-up. I’ve also included the Christmas and New Year’s Eve’s line-up in this article, but needless to say, the SABC channels just couldn’t part with their line-up for just one day, I mean seriously it’s Christmas Day and what do they show… repeats of… wait for it…. Days, Bold, Isidingo etc – I ask you? whereas e-tv and M-Net really made a serious effort to give us something special on that day. New Year’s Eve is almost as bad with only SABC2 and M-Net who made some sort of effort there. Maybe some of the channels will wake up at the last minute and make a seious effort for Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.

SABC1

On Fridays you can look forward to Paid in Full, Murder at 16:00 (good), Cradle to the Grave and Absolute Power (good). On Saturdays Mama Flora’s Family, Made Men, Summer’s End, boss of Bosses, Barbershop and Deep Cover. On Sunday’s Yesterday, Faith’s Corner, Red Dust, Goodbye Bafana and Sarafina.

My absolutely have to see movies are Murder at 16:00, Absolute Power – I haven’t seen Sarafina (yet), but from what I’ve heard it’s defs worth watching.

SABC2

On Saturdays you can look forward to Caddyshack, Kiss the Bride, Shawshank Redemption (defs worth watching), Must be Santa, 8 Seconds (defs worth watching), A Boyfriend for Christmas, One Special Night, Jesus Christ Super Star and Blind Faith

My absolutely have to see movies are Wag the Dog, Keeping the Faith, A Civil Action, Sixth Sense, LotR, Troy and The Last Samurai

e-tv

Their Friday Action Night offerings will show you All About the Benjamins, Resident Evil (defs worth watching), Ocean’s 11 (defs worth watching), Special Forces, Men in Black I&II (defs worth watching), Sacrifice and The Pretender. On Saturdays they’ll show you Stuart Little I&II (defs worth watching), A Kiss Before Dying, Trapped (good), Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, Basic (not bad), Elf, Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye, Austin Powers: Goldmember (good if you like this sort of movie), Vanilla Sky. On Sundays it’s all out action and suspense with Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (defs worth watching), Collateral Damage (defs worth watching), Training Day (defs on my list to watch), Spiderman I (defs worth watching), The Terminator (defs worth watching – only if it’s only for a bit of nostalgia, wonder where they fell of the bus with this one).

My absolutely have to see movies are Resident Evil, MIB I&II, Stuart Little, A Kiss Before Dying, Trapped, PotC, Collateral Damage, Spiderman, The Terminator

M-Net

On Saturdays it’s all out action and comedy with Batman Begins (defs worth watching), The Last Ride (good), The Longest Yard (good), Spanglish, Taxi (defs worth watching), Beauty Shop, Over the Hedge (good), Owning Mahowny. On Sundays they’ll be screening a mixture of action and comedy with Superman Returns (good), Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (not bad), Click, The Last Holiday (good), RV

My absolutely have to see movies are Batman Begins, The Last Ride, The Longest yard, Taxi, Over the Hedge, Superman Returns and the Last Holiday

ON CHRISTMAS DAY

I can’t believe that the SABC just couldn’t reschedule their daily schedule for one day – you know just in case you’ve missed Days or Bold or Isidingo or whatever the night before – come on guys it’s Christmas day show something decent – However I’ve managed to get something worthy you could watch on SABC2 Christmas Worship and 12 Days of Christmas.

e-tv

Richie Rich Christmas Wish, The Santa Clause I&II, Eloise at Christmas Time, the Christmas Wish

M-Net

Christmas with the Kranks – this is not a bad movie, but it’s not great either. It will however defs put you in lighter spirits for day. Surviving Christmas, Noël will have you groping at the Kleenex in no time – to me it was a real Christmas story – I just loved it and is defs worth the watch; The Santa Clause 3: The Escape and Miracle of the Heart

ON NEW YEAR’S EVE

SABC2 23:00 New Year’s Eve Special
M-Net 23:00 Royal Variety Performance
