SABC3 is looking for a Programme Manager to plan and manage the channel's line-up.
Main purpose of position:Plan and manage international and local programmes in order to meet SABC mandate and channel requirements to deliver high quality programmes to target audiences.
Key Accountabilities:Reporting to the General Manager; the appointee will:
- Develop and execute the Channel's programming strategy, and plan for attainment of the Channel's targets
- Accept responsibility for editorial management and quality control of all programmes
- Act as a primary interface between the Channel and both Content Enterprises and News
- Assess and exploit the viability of new projects
- Lead the negotiation of business deals for new programming ventures
- Manage the Channel's programme budget effectively and efficiently
- Lead a team of programming specialists
- Network and liaise extensively with various stakeholders
- Bring innovative, creative and public commercial service vision to programming and be an effective member of the Channel's executive leadership team
- Monitor overall schedule economic performance
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the local television industry and put forward creative ideas in accordance with the channel's long-term policy objectives
Requirements:
- A proven track record in television broadcasting and an innovative approach to work
- Proven budget and business process management skills
- Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to manage staff and external service providers Business acumen and at least five years relevant experience in the SA media market
- Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the needs, tastes and aspirations of South African audiences and the Channel's target market
- An understanding of, and a creative approach to achieving the SABC's commercial public service mandate
- An extensive knowledge of current affairs, audience and market research, the SA media market and the global market
- A tertiary qualification would be an added advantage
- Ability to function under pressure
- Computer literacy is essential
- Understanding of market research and the application thereof
- Creative flair
- Understanding of production and technology
- Global perspective
