What touched me the most about the SAFTAs

I’m currently watching the South African Film and TV Awards (Saftas) on SABC 2 as I type this. So this will be done in present tense, though it will only be uploaded on Monday.

I stayed home tonight (Saturday), didn’t go out or get up to no good, that’s good. It must be the effects of that “growing up” factor that comes upon all of us at one stage or the other. I just turned 25 on 25 December 2008 by the way (cough cough), excuse me.

But last night, I went to a Russian Embassy party, where we were all dressed up according to a certain theme. I went to a costume shop in Hatfield, I waited for more than 25 minutes for service (I’m not making this up). They didn’t help me, I guess it’s because the shop was full of white people. I just stood there, like I was invincible, until I finally left, I had to rush to a Kata Box class at the gym. Let’s not forget this is Pretoria by the way, as the author of The Madams, Zukiswa Wanner, puts it, this is the only city still mired in issues of Apartheid. In Pretoria… well…lets leave the politics for another day.

Carribean Chick, aka Feza

Faith, my good friend, who also happens to be my Hip Hop dance instructor at the gym, was kind enough to borrow me the flowery  little red things to put around my neck, dunno what they call it. We adopted the Caribbean Theme.

I won’t divulge much about the party, it is all in the pictures, note the different themes, as there will be no , um, um. Guess what? I just had a mental block. I forgot a word, there’s a word that I’m looking for, so I walk to my book shelf, I grab a book, from my school days, titled “A new introduction to Journalism”. I Can not find the page, Eish, I don’t have the patience.

Ok, Ok, where are we going with this? Ok, back to the Saftas. But before, let me pour me a double vodka, single passion fruit and stoney.

I’m back, I sit, back to the key board.

You know what, I love Trevor Noah, this guy is talented, funny and just down right intelligent. The Saftas could not have chosen a better host. Trevor is doing a superb job. I found nothing quite exquisite about this show…until Nonhle Thema’s mother spoke. I’ve been trying to do some reading in between the show, But when that mama spoke, I stopped everything that I was doing, and I listened. I was touched. I looked and listened. (no, not the Look and Listen music shop), while listening to her, I saw a mother, a nurturer, not just an actress.

She really does come a long way, according to the clip that showed her history as an actress. Well done Mama ka Nonhle, you deserve the Life Time Award and you are an inspiration to most of us, you are certainly an inspiration to me. She said that “Don’t give up, there is a light at the end of the tunnel”. She mentioned, also, that it took her more than three decades to be standing on that spot. That’s 30 years. It took her 30 years to be the legend that she is today. Then I ask myself, me, with my little fairy tale dreams, that, who the hell do I think I am.

Who the hell do I think I am to be so impatient, to want success to come running into cocktail glass? Who the hell do I think I am to expect people, who do not know me, to give me and my ideas and concepts and proposals a chance at a go?  (Don't get me wrong, i do not want to be an actress or anything extreme like that)

On another note, I respect Generations' decision to boycott the awards event, it was their decision, Baba Mfundi and his team have their own reasons, and their decision should be respected. I just got a little irritated when everybody was trying to make a joke of the issue. Please...

Well, mama ka Nonhle, your words of encouragement gave me a whole new strength, to believe more and more in my dreams, to keep on working on them because one day…there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Oh, I found it, the word I was looking for is “caption”. I said earlier on that the pics will be included, so note the different themes, as there will be no captions.

PS: Party people, check the rest of the pics at face book.

SAFTA’s gave me the opportunity to admire my “crush” Trevor Noah, for almost 2 hours, Goshhhhhh you guys have no idea, of the fantasies I had, especially when he said his mother is Xhosa, dem us Xhosa women, surely can breed.

What was the most memorable event for you about the Saftas?
The fact that i had to work from 17h00 until 03h30 am the next day  and still wake up at 05h15 to start working again at 06h00 LOL... i didnt even see those SAFTA's ... some of us earn our living in a very difficult way esih.

Feza..nice article but i thing if what you are saying was the captio of your picture(as in SATFA pictures) it would even be more nicer.

The other thing that touched me, is a clip of  "Police Brutality" that they showed. It was really really sad.

that man said, the police took him in and they ordered him to take off his shoes, then they ordered him to take off his pants, and they asked him how many kids he had, then he said 4.

So they basically told him "well, brace yourself cause you wont have anymore kids".

From that, it is obvious that they were going to electric-shock his private parts. He was even crying when he said that.

Thing is

You mentionaed that you are currently watching Safta's  so the next thing that comes to my mind is: The article is about Safta's, next thing i saw a picture that wasnt taken at Safta's(first twist), then again you go on type or talk about  safta's then the next pic(second twist), it goes on and on until you come to your last question, what is the memoriable what what about Safta's and im still thinking Safta's ... that's how it got twisted.
