It records television set events automatically, using a remote control unit. Visitors to the measured households are included. 
How do they know that there are visitor is a household, so the numbers are just an estimate it does not mean that the numbers are a true reflection of the actual number of people watching a show at a time. I am still confused about how these numbers or ARs if you like; are calculated.
