The madness of multiple Motswako's

Motswako's moving to e.tv after Rolling with Mandoza ends. Yip! It's premiering on e.tv on Sunday, 22 December.

NOT.

But almost.

Rolling with Mandoza ends on e.tv this Sunday (15 December) and Motwako takes over from it the week after except it isn't Motswako at all. It's a new show with the exact same name. Believe it! It's so pathetic I couldn't believe it's actually happening when I first heard.

There are so many name possibilities for the show they could so easily have come up with something different and yet they haven't even bothered which suggests that the show itself is going to be a boring mess. It's about the hip hop scene in Mafikeng, North West and how it fits into South African hip hop culture so it could be dynamic and different but clearly very little effort's been put into it.

Motswako's one of the most iconic and long running shows on SABC2 - e.tv's direct competitor - so it's beyond madness for e.tv to give another show the same name. Bah!

Tashi, the bokone bophirima (North West) hip hop scene is Motswako and there wouldn't be any other name to describe it.Its what produced Morafe, Tuks Senganga, HHP,Khuli Chana, Casper Nyovest, Motso, Notshi and BeatJunky TP.I know the fact that its the same name sucks but its called exactly what it is.

Looool Tashi tltltltl I have a feeling the etv Motswako has nothing to to with the sabc e Motswako, as in the one by Carol Bouer's production company. If the etv one is an extension of it then its indeed super odd, not characteristic of Carol Bouer type of work.

Motswako(means mix) is a mixture of Setswana/English hip/hop music originating from Mahikeng NW. If the show was a talk show then we would have a problem.

The hip hop genre of North West is called Motswako. so it makes perfect sense to call the show that..actually there is no better name for that kinda show.

Hey hey! Ja, I know the NW hip hop scene's called Motswako - I just assumed everyone did - it's why I didn't explain it in the story. I reckon the name of the show needs to be something like "Motswako: the heart of the beat." Something that differentiates it to give a clear idea that it's different from the talker.
