If there were an award for the Best Thriller in the history of TV
Dexter 2 would have
to win it. What a show!
My best (and worst!) part of the season's been the Dexter/Doakes roller-coater ride that gripped me apart in every scene between them - I SO wanted them to somehow resolve things between them without anyone getting hurt. Even when it seemed it was impossible, I still had hope.
The moral dilemma that put us on both their sides was genius stuff that got perfectly resolved through Lila's
hectic sataninity. How's her mind for being the ultimate in psychopig! You really can't believe people like her exist - yet they do - one of my friend's has an ex-girlfriend who was exactly like her.
As Doakes's crispy torso got pulled out of the river I choked back a gulp, apologised for being relieved that Dexter was off the hook and Doakes'd
* my Jack Russell, feeling slightly consoled by the fact that a bit of Doakes will live on in our communications forever.
Then came Lila's humdinging end and Doakes's sacrifice proved to be worth every satisfying moment of rrrrrrevenge.
Like me I'm sure you're feeling you want more-more so the show doesn't end - even though it all couldn't be watched quickly enough.
To help with the feeling I've gathered bits and pieces I thought you'd enjoy. I've found a video with a short interview with Michael C. Hall and some cool Dexter/Doakes/Lila quotes:
-----Dexter: The only real question is why in a building full of cops, all supposedly with a keen insight to the human soul, is Doakes the only one who gets the creeps from me?
-----
Dexter: Why couldn't you just leave me to do my work in peace? Why'd you have to go and ruin everything?
Doakes: You're a killer. I catch killers.
Dexter: So do I. I caught you.
Doakes: I'm not a killer.
Dexter: You are. That's why you've always known what I am. That's why you have more "officer-related" shootings than anybody else. Only I don't frak with you when you shoot somebody, why couldn't you pay me the same professional courtesy?
Doakes: There's nothing professional about what you do. I kill when I have to, on the job.
Dexter: So, it's okay to take a life as long as you get a paycheck for it?
-----
Dexter: You, you are more dangerous than my addiction will ever be. That's saying a lot. Stay away from Rita. Stay away from me.
Lila: Or what?
Dexter: Or you will see the monster.
-----
Deb: How do I find out Lila's real name?
Lundy: I think you know the answer to that.
Deb: Cut off her head, look for a label.
Lundy: There's probably an easier way.
-----
Doakes: Unlike you, I do everything out in the open.
Dexter: Well in that case Sergeant, let me put this in the open for you. No matter what you try, no matter when, no matter how hard you work, I'll always be a step ahead of you for one simple reason.
Doakes: And what's that?
Dexter: I own you.
-----
Doakes: I really need to get out of this cage lady.
Lila: Poor thing.
Doakes: I'm okay.
Lila: Not no you. Dexter. Hiding such an enormous secret. What a burden that has got to be. No wonder he's. So. Shut. Down.
Doakes: What are you? His accomplice?
Lila: I'm his soulmate.
-----
Masuka: "A bad ass like Doakes would rather burn than get burned." That's a good line for my movie. I'd better write it down.
Dexter: You're writing a movie about Doakes?
Masuka: Like you're not?

Doakes. Verb/adverb. Describes the action of warning a subject that you're watching them like Doakes watched Dexter. Must be done with appropriate hand gesture (can't find a pic but hopefully you see it) to be authentic. Examples in a sentence: "I will Doakes you." "Consider yourself Doakes'd."
