Agent Mahone: A LANK Pressure Dude

Prison Break's Agent Mahone's so hysterical that not a moment passes when I'm not chuckling at him when he's on screen. William Fichner's ominous angulosity (with his slight hint of a freckle or two) is soo perfect for the role that I find myself being on his side when I shouldn't be.
Of course I always want our slurpy convicts to outwit him in each instance but at the same time I want Mahone to outwit them back so I can be thrilled by what he'll do.
The first time I saw William Fichtner was in the movie Go where he played a creepy Amway salesmen in what has to be one of the best performances ever.
Everything I've seen him in since has been informed by one particular scene in the film where he stripped off his clothes, sat on a bed and tried to devour an unsuspecting dude by selling him man-sex and Amway products in the same butt naked breath.
As Agent Mahone he delivers the same frenetic edge where you can't work out what's going on in his head but you just know that he's at the point of snapping into a crazed dimension that there's no coming back from.
As we saw in this week's episode (eps 3), the last thing in the world you want is to work for him. There's no doubt that the pressure would guarantee you'd end up on the same psycho pills that he chucks back with such skeletal vigour.
What I lurve about the show is the fact that every single person on the side of juctice is so much more twisted than any of the escapees (including T-Bag in moments!) could ever hope to be. Bellick and his shit-sack sidekick Geary, Dr Sara's self serving, cruel father and the ultimate helldog Kellerman - all of them are scum incarnate.
I loathe each of them more than the other but with Mahone's madness it's very different. I think it has to do with the fact that I reckon he's so loopy 'cos he really does believe in serving justice.
I also like the idea that if he were on your side and you managed to avoid drugs through it, you'd have a perfect ally. I'm really hoping that his manic hunt's gonna uncover the truth about what's happened and that he'll end up on Lincoln and Michael's side.
Do you feel the same delighted way about him or do you despise him totally? Do you think he's legit in his pursuit of good or do you think he has darker intentions?

All I know is that I hate him for making Scofield's life so difficult!! Damn, I hate the fact that he's so smart and psychic too! He makes watching this season so interesting though... I'm forever biting nails at every move he makes...he pulls this character off so nicely! I hate him, and that's a good thing! |
