! A headsup that the first Results Show of The Voice will be on SABC3 this Saturday (28 April) from 18h00 to 19h00. Team Blake and Christina gave their first live show performances on Wednesday night and four will get the chop on Saturday.
Each week's Results Show will be on Saturdays at the same time for the season.
Results Show format:
The public votes will put three contenders from each team into the danger-zone.
These three will perform.
Their coach will save one.
Two will go home from each team.
As for who'll get the chop based on Wednesday's performances ... these are my predictions:
Team Blake
An easy one to predict because of how strongly contrasting his team's performances were. I reckon the bottom three will be Jordis, Erin and Jermaine - all for the same reason - their songs
sucked. Both Erin and Jermaine were dealt a terrible blow by their songs and I doubt the public will forgive it because they didn't reveal anything about who they are as singers. There was no hook with either of them, nothing that helped us to feel what sort of singers they are so viewers won't feel close to them to vote for them.
Jermaine's "Living On A Prayer" was
the worst choice of the night - Bon Jovi are so unbelievably retro - and
not in a good way. Their songs need to be dumped in the eighties where they belong.
Jordis suited her song a lot more but she didn't take it where she needed to. She should have gone, bigger, bolder, more dramatic and out there. She also needs to get rid of the "panic" that's screaming in the back of her head.
That said I reckon Blake will save her above Jermaine and Erin if they all end up in the bottom three because of how much he gushed about her.
Team Christina
The danger'zone's trickier to predict with Christina's team because she's got singers from such different genres e.g. Moses and his rap and Chris and his opera.
Voters are either going to embrace them for it or turn on them - I predict the latter. I agreed with the other coaches when they said that Christina should have given Moses a track that would have let him sing more instead of mostly rap.
He has the chops to sing but she didn't let him show them off. I reckon he'll be in the bottom three because of viewers' expectations about the series finding the voice of a singer.
She did better with Chris - she managed to avoid the opera, leaning towards a more contemporary Michael Bublé flavour. Voters might feel that he's also too genre-specific though and place him in the bottom three as a result.
I also forsee Ashley in the bottom three - she sang well and she's cute but she sounded
exactly like Alanis Morisette so there was no point to her singing the song. Alanis may as well have done it.
If these three are in the bottom three I reckon Christina will save Chris because of the whole "I'm a trained singer"
*posh la-la-la* thing he's got going on.
My fave of the night out of everyone: still Naia - definitely!
