The Children of Elizabeth Smart’s Kidnapper Speak Out
In 2002, 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart was taken at knifepoint from her bedroom in one of the highest-profile kidnappings of all time.
Elizabeth was rescued nine months later, after her sister recalled a memory from the night of the abduction. She'd been taken by a man who had done some repair work on the family's home, a self-proclaimed prophet named Brian David Mitchell.
Mitchell's wife of 17 years, Wanda Barzee, was an accomplice in the abduction. On November 17, 2009, Barzee pled guilty in Federal Court to kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor.
She's confined to a state hospital and has yet to be sentenced.
Today, four of the children of Elizabeth Smart's kidnapper open up about life in their childhood home. The children of Elizabeth Smart's kidnapper, Wanda Barzee, talk about what their lives were like growing up with Barzee as a mother.
